CB750 K1 carb questions
« on: December 01, 2015, 10:16:38 AM »
HI
The number 1 carb on my K1 now needs replacement. One float pivot broke off a long time ago (fixed with a 1mm drill bit and stainless steel wire) and now the emulsion tube post has also cracked and broken.
I have a couple of spare carbs, but only one of them is for the #1 position.

The original carb is marked "7A  JH" while the replacement is marked "657A  KH".
So my question is what differences are there besides jetting?

My second question is about the carb floats:
The brass float on the original carb has started leaking and I have resoldered it twice. They are pretty fragile and I'm obviously doing something wrong.
Be that as it may, what about the black plastic float that came with the replacement carb? Do the plastic floats weigh the same as brass floats? Nowhere in the various manuals I have do they even get a mention (also not in Hondamans book) so can I safely assume that float heights are the same for both types?

regards
Thomas

I have many spare carb bodies.  The single body here pictured is a 7A #1 (the letters after are always going to be different rack to rack, the first set is the meaningful one, although the bodies are all virtually the same).

The bodies I keep as spares to use on racks just like you would need a new #1 if you sent them to me for service.  Price varies on condition, this one is $35 shipped priority mail.

As for the float issue, the brass ones if not leaking often times are quite beat up, the black ones have the exact same float height settings.  Switching over to all synthetic (black) floats is just plain better unless you are going for as original as possible.

OK thanks for the info Harisuluv. As shipping to SA will be expensive I'll first take a look at what I can find locally but I'll keep your offer in mind.
