Newb from So Cal - 75' CB400F Content Inside:)
« on: December 02, 2015, 01:23:56 PM »
Good Afternoon Folks!

Welcoming myself to this wonderful forum, I'm Dan from the OC area of So Cal. I wanted to share with you all my latest prize, I inherited my grandfather's 1975 Honda CB400F! He bought the bike brand new in December of 1975 with 3 miles on it (still have all original paperwork). Unfortunately, he just passed away but his last gift to me was this beautiful bike. It's sat for the past few years but I've already gathered parts to do a full tune up. I have:

plugs
oil / filter
carb cleaner
air filter recharge kit
gas tank cleaner

Any other advice? Thanks for having me, looking forward to meeting and working with you all! -Dan

Welcome,

I got some of my first riding time sitting on the tank in front of my grandfather.

Enjoy your warm weather.  We had snow yesterday in Northern MN.

Welcome from Seal Beach.  I would suggest you download your manual (available on this site) and perform the 3000 mile maintenance.  At least that's what all the old timers recommend (so it must be true).

Good looking bike.

Well I finally got the bike fired up on Sunday! First time it has run in several years, it was pretty dang exciting to say the least!!

Took the carbs apart and soaked them overnight, cleaned what I could, put new O-rings on the jets, got idle and mixture pretty well adjusted as well as timing but it still has a pretty bad bog between 2K-5K rpms. Above that and man, this thing pulls super hard! Talked to a few folks, they say the K&N pod filters require re-jetting to about #85's up from the OEM of #75. I found #82's @ 4into1 so i'll slap those in and see how it goes.

This bike is great, really like the sound of it when it's gets revving up pretty high! I'm going to work on the front caliper this weekend, darn thing is basically frozen solid

Nice CB400F bike there, DDan! Were your carbs crudded much, sitting just a few years?
