Curious to know what octanes you lot use for aggressive street machines as well as track days. I just found a petrol station near me that sells ethanol free fuel if I buy 96, 98, or 101 octane.

My k0 is factory and I don't know how it'll respond to high octane. Maybe you have some insight?

My k1 is still being built but will be an 836cc performance oriented machine. Could I run the higher octane fuel or should I suck it up and live with the standard 91 octane ethanol mix?

Currently living in California

Truth time- running any octane of gasoline 87+ with NO ETHANOL is going to be better than any fuel WITH ETHANOL.

Ethanol was added to the fuel supply for "emissions" and for the Farm Lobby.

Octane for octane, gallon for gallon, you will make more power with the ethanol-free gasoline.

G'day Willis,

Exactly. I'm aware of that. I just wonder if my machine is up for it, or if I'll be expending lots of unburnt fuel by using the 96 octane because my engine is only going to be 10.5:1 compression

I want to avoid ethanol in my fresh engine build but I have to know that it's really worth the investment. It's easily twice the cost of 87 and I ride a lot. But I don't want to invest the $ if it's not going to be a significant difference. I can pretty easily rebuild carbs there are ways for me to regularly clean the fuel system, so if ethanol mixed 91 octane is all I really need, then I spend the money saved on replacing the rubber bits in my fuel system.

Easy answer- run the ethanol free fuel and put the price difference down as piece of mind.

You will get better power, fuel economy and longevity with ethanol free fuel.

That's probably good advice. When I finish building it I will probably tune it for 96 (after I've triple checked that it's definitely ethanol free at their pumps) and go with it

Do you know the brand of the fuel at the pump?

Not off hand, I'm in Spain for work. I'll check it out when I return to California.
