When my bike gets hot, the stator assy starts to knock. It's been doing this for a while. I popped the stator cover (coil attached) off right after a ride earlier, attached the charger, fired up the bike (which spayed hot oil all over my porch.. forgot about the plug), and it ran perfectly quite.
Has anyone else had a problem with generator parts making contact- I assume that's what's happening?.. though there doesn't seem to be any wear on the rotor or coils.
Thanks

It's pretty easy to install the field coil off centre and have it grind and clank, it could start touching as things heat up if just a bit off.
I wrap masking tape around the field coil and install the cover with its holding screws loose, tighten them up, then remove the cover again to pull off the tape.

So then inspect the tape for wear to tell where it is rubbing?
