Bill,

I'd just love to get you a spin in something powered by a Rolls Royce Merlin, just for being a good egg !

Take care,

Kev

PS what could that include ? Spittie, Mosquito, Lancaster . . . . .

Kev I'm an old Merlin mechanic from way back I worked on them as an apprentice way back in 1958/59 in 407 RCAF  and then in California in 64/65, lovely engine (  you could take this monster of an engine and change valve guides whith a kettle of hot water and other gems ) I still every time I go to the Hamilton War Plane  Museum stop walk over to the Lanc and rub my hands in used 100 weight  softens the skin and caluses, lasts better than those cheap skin creams they sell . If I was reborn I would bend heaven and earth to fly a Spitfire with a Merlin and a Mustang but I guess my dream of being a 75 year old fighter pilot have to wait a  bit same as the senior TT or the Scottish if they still run that the thing that worries me the most as I deteriorate is if the mind goes what veg will I become , a carrot, a turnip, perhaps a celery root maybe a Serrano ( good flavour with bite) I think I'll try for Serrano.

Bill,

I sense a bit of melancholy in some of these posts. It is very common for people who have had a heart attack to have a period of this. It is sometimes the drugs they give you.

Don't look back and say I can no longer do this or that, the point is that you did this and that. Very few people have had the chance of of doing what you have done. Acquired a lot of knowledge and applied that knowledge well.  You can be look at it as a life well lived, and there is more life to live, just different.

I live fairly close to West Point and I know a Major. He to me to Helicopter hangers and i met some of the Gunship pilots. When they asked how did you do this, or what did you do when this occurred, i told them.  I walked away knowing I could no longer do those things, but I did them and knowing that made me feel good.

If I did not so those things I would be walking around with a bag full of regrets not a bag full of accomplishments.  You have a whole suitcase full of accomplishments.

+1 on what  BobbyR is saying you have done more than most would ever dream.  That is something to be proud of especially in a day and age when people are content to literally Twitter their lives away.  You life has meaning, and purpose, you are a survivor and will survive this as well.

Hang in there.  It will take some time, but you will find a way even if that means reinventing yourself.

Well guys as far as melancholia goes yes I'm essentially a Scots Canadian , a celt and I think that's a thread that runs through the family for generations , with us when we are not #$%*ing or laughing  we go quiet and those are the difficult times, as far as the pills go no worse than any thing , yes when the lady surgeon was questioning about my devil take the hindmost attitude I explained that I had a full life done more things than most so if  things went  wrong I didn't want extreme measures taken and what I thought extreme measures were ( no tube down the throat ) then I think I startled her a bit when I said you know if I think that it's getting a bit to much I will tell everyone to #$%* off. I don't really think that too many people talk to surgeons like that, but I wanted to make sure everyone understood  me so the rude Anglo Saxon and not put a politically correct spin on it, nice lady , she laughed and said something about me being direct I said  .

Bill, that's not rude. It's your life and you need to be in control of it. #$%* em if they can't understand. This coming from a 3rd generation US Irishman that usually says what he thinks and has no regrets about it. Main thing is to think about it before it comes from the mouth. If you do that then there should be no regrets on your part. Politically corrects' ass!

Bill,

we're all here for ya. Don't forget that.

And I know of an unused Merlin in a packing crate. Honest ! Getting it would be feasible, all you need is a rogue Irish chancer.

Wait a minute . . .

Anyways, take care mate.

Glad that you are OK Bill. I had an stent implanted three years ago, in one of the coronary arteries.

maybe if we put ten of us together we could make for a normal, healthy man.... :-)

I was taking pills to reduce the cholesterol level to reduce the chances of another artery clogging. Now, with the chemotherapy, doctors told me not to take it as it is metabolized by the liver. "Cholesterol is now the smaller of your problems" -they told me-. I have had cholesterol above 300 for several months. So I guess that if I survive the chemo I  may die from a heart attack any day.

I there any way to escape one's own fate?

Geez, I just saw this Bill, congrats for surviving it, and I'm glad you're on the mend! I know a paramedic who told me that in 8 out of 10 fatal heart attacks he attends, the victim has a packet of antacids close by, thinking that he/she only had a bad case of indigestion.

I'm a bit shocked to see that Tim (KGhost) and Bobby have had heart attacks recently as well, I'm glad you guys are on the mend too! Raul, you're a special case again mate, all the best. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

just heard the not so surprising coroners report: Cocaine, alcohol and the amphetamine MDA — a drug similar to ecstasy — in his system. The medical examiner also noted a history of cardiovascular disease, asthma and multi-substance dependence.

I don't get it, if he had multiple diseases, and those are some crappy diseases, wouldn't a Physician prescribe "multiple" or even more substance medications?

That had to of been one bad ass last bus ride. And the asthma is cured to boot.

I don't know why, but I think each one of us should be able to choose the course in our lives, weather it's what others feel is unsafe to them or not, if that's what he wanted. Many think bikers are like crazy because it's not what they'd do. oh well.

No worries mate. I knew the symptoms in talking to people who have had them. My Brother is an MD and he said when someone says they feel like they need to burp and they can't he knows it is a heart attack. I put all that together and said it was time to go.

I had very quick treatment which stopped it and avoided any damage. He was spraying dye around and very pipe was completely clear.  He ran video and had everyone look since it was unusual.

As usual up to now i dodged the bullet. The Devil has to wait.
