I did a crazy thing today,I bought  a  Gretsch G6118TLH Anniversary, smoke green.I paid 1 825$,I think its a good price.I'll watch the post man,the said the will shipping it monday.I bought it from Music store live....Any comments on them????

Let me know what you think guys!!

Bert

New..?  In my experience with new guitars, very few are set up well, action, harmonics, neck relief, I'm kinda fussy but also know what to look and listen for, do you know any guys that are good guitarists, most of the set up is not that hard if you know what you are doing. I've had to tweak every guitar i've ever owned...   Apart from that, enjoy the new toy... ;)

Man I'd call them up and say you either want the black one or $549 off sale.  Even though green is a cooler color.

I didn't look real close... left handed , too.

I knew a guy who only kept a left handed guitar out to keep  everyone that came over from picking it up and playing  it.

one thing I have learned after 40yrs or so of playing every guitar under the sun,and it was a hard lesson,it does not matter what kind of guitar you buy or how much it costs, your playing is like a fingerprint yours and yours alone, put any guitar in the hands of your favorite player and he/she will always sound like themselves.billp

I think you were wise to buy a good one. You have GAS, guitar aquisition syndrome. It's cured by NGD, new guitar day.

This is not actually the cure, it is merely a temporary  remedy of the symptoms.

I have been making my own guitars for more years than I care to remember.

This is one of mine, built from scratch.

I am quite happy setting up any guitar I build or buy but I have found that Taylor guitars, for my personal preferences, come perfectly set up and need no adjustment whatever.

True, I thought I had enough guitars, ha, that's like enough motorcycles. There was this guy that had a cl100 that wanted to buy my cb900c and then later that day I saw the used resonator fender in the window. I didn't even know I needed them.

Here's the third of the three guitars i've made.  For this one i borrowed a mates Les Paul Gold Top and measured absolutely everything that could be measured. That was the easy bit!  Transferring the measurements to a bit of wood was challenging with the limited woodworking skills i have.
Looks great and sounds fantastic.  The only advice i would give is, if you're going to make a solid bodied guitar don't use iroko.  It weighs an absolute ton! After half an hour your shoulder really feels it!

Anyway, good luck with your build, i'm sure it'll be the first of many.

Kenny

335 actually has a block through the middle.  The Coronado I sold was a true hollow body' and I figure the increasing unavailability of that model is probably a contributing factor to my GAS affliction.

The Kay Speed Demon is a true hollow body, as is the Howard Roberts, and they can sound amazingly similar when trading rifs at the same time.

If you look at the rear view you'll see that it is actually a through neck construction with mahogany wings glued on. The upper surface was then machined flat apart from the neck so that the book matched maple cap could be fitted. The cavities were routed out before the top was fixed on.

It would have been a quite a  bit of routering to make it look like it had a through neck and not actually have one. Not sure if that's ever been done.(?)

You know Chef Tuskey builds custom guitars (in addition to his recently acquired motorcycle resto hobby).

I own two guitars that I inherited from my late father. This is my favorite, a late 60's Silvertone 1446 that he bought in the mid 1970's. As far as I can tell everything but the strings is original to it.

When my father was reaching the end of his life he asked me what of his I wanted and I told him the only thing I wanted was the hollow body electric.

I did some research on it after I brought it home. This model is often called the Chris Isaak guitar since he uses one and named his debut album after it.
