OPM data breach
« on: January 05, 2016, 06:46:31 PM »
Has anyone else received that letter from the OPM about the data breach.  They give you that 25 digit pin number and you're directed to that MyIDCare site?

What's the deal with that - is that redirect to MyIDCare legit or a scam?

Google the names and put scam in search and if they are a known scam it might return info to that end. Forward info sent to your local police and attorney general and possible call your local TV folks about it if it is widespread it might be helpful.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

Office of Personnel Management

Basically if you've ever had dealings as a government employee or contractor you're in their database.

It's a little scary, first a perfectly legitimate letter from the OPM tells you to sign up, then you immediately get redirected to an outside site and have to put in all this personal information.

It would have been nice had the Gov just gone ahead and done this for me - would have eliminated all the scam worries.

Well, if they had my data from the OPM before, they REALLY have it now. ;D

Hopefully I won't have to use the services ever.
I'm getting really sick of all these hacks.
