Ha ha, no mate, not quite. Back in the 80's when I had my first Sportster, I was chatting about bikes to a cop, and I showed him the big "U" lock I'd just bought as I didn't have a garage to lock it in.
He explained to me that the standard scenario was that one of the clubs "Old Ladies" would ring the cops and say that a motorcycle (always a Harley) registration number xyz123 had just clipped her car and taken off. The cops would then give her the name and address of the registered owner.
The boys would then drive their truck with the crane around to the registered owners house, and relieve him of his hawg..........
