K0 front brake disc identification
« on: December 15, 2015, 01:27:56 PM »
Howdy,
Do any of you K0K0 nuts out there have any idea how to tell the difference between a K0 disc and a later disc?
I have a number of them and that all have different numbers and stampings on the outside inner face.
Thanks in advance.

The aluminum centre piece..look at the outer edge..does it taper off to a point, or is it a square edge ?
If the periphery is square..its KO..

The K0 disk is also smaller in circumference to the later disks.

Pretty sure they are the same diameter. Will double check tomorrow and report back if I'm wrong.

I thought they were the same, too. In any case, here is a pic of the most visible feature that Frank mentioned:

Here's another shot of a K0 rotor.

Thanks Frank...and the rest of you
I have it figured out now. Seems that I have one...but may need a bit of resurfacing.
I have heard that it is not easy to do. What kind of equipment would be used to resurface? Is it even doable?

Thanks

Steve

Blocksanding on a lathe can do wonders..surprising difference.
But if borrowing a lathe make sure its okay..i very rarely sand on my lathe, and cover it all up if I must.
A lot of the grind resurfacers out there get a finish that never came out of Japan.
I was trying to set up to do a factory type regrind..but its on hold right now..
