Yes i pulled the number 4 plug and as you stated put it next to metal and yep spark, so im thinking its a gas issue.
The fella i bought the bike from said it had been sitting for several years. So im suspecting the dregraded fuel in the system is reaking havoc on me getting her to run. I have no experience with the points thing but will find them and attempt to clean them up as 754 suggested.
Any of you guys make house calls?

LOL I'm working on my own basket case. Waiting on my valve cover gasket before I go any further on the engine.

Try to get new plugs ..old plugs on these that even look like decent spark ..can cause fits starting them
 Moreso in this weather.. D8ES or D8EA  I think..
I see you got that.. Clean the point with file and paper if rough then take a plug put it on 1 or 4. Open the 1/4 points THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS with the starting fluid..move it out doors backfire is emminent.. Then pull a 2or 3 lead and try same... Thats how i check spark.
Try with plugs in if you like but take it outside..can be as loud as a gunshot..not kidding.. Not always , but when i didnt expect I think i fell off the stepstool..scared the piss outa me.

So I ordered plugs from Motorcycle Canada along with some other goodies and this is what they sent me : NGK Standard Spark Plug - DR8EA
Are these the right ones?

Yeah I here ya bud. I just wanted to get mine started and running before I tore her down for paint and some sprucing up.
