Advice needed on 1981 CB650
« on: December 21, 2015, 07:58:03 AM »
I've found a CB650 for sale and would love your expert opinions on the bike, the asking price, etc. It is a 1981 CB650 with 13,900 miles and appears to be in good shape (see photos). The current owner says he keeps it in a garage and it starts and runs well. Asking price is $1,700.

Is this a fair price for this bike? Anything in the photos look strange? Anything I should be concerned about with this year or model?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Assuming it is titled, running, non-leaking/smoking/rattling, it's not a bad price for a not so collectible bike. Many people harvest these to swap the motor into a 550 frame or for the cam.

^^^^ Running and titled?  Heck yeah, buy it and, to paraphrase, "ride it like you stole it".  Fair price.

I bought my 550 for...I can't really remember...like $1100 in NJ and it needed a lot of work. As far as I'm concerned that's a decent price. I'd try $1500 though :).

I sold one of those in a bit better condition and with only 6500 miles a few months ago for only $1300. From what you've described i wouldn't pay more than 1300 or 1400 for that bike. They're not as desirable as other SOHC bikes but are definitely under rated.
