Topic: Buying speedomter and tach

I've seen some similar posts as I lurked this site before making an account on here so excuse the redundancy , but I didn't see any answers. When I bought this bike, the previous owner took the Speedo /odo and tach off. I have been riding for a while now, so I can gauge the speed decently, but I want to get them for long distance purposes. I'm not looking for OEM. I would like to get some modernized items on it to make it more my own. What should I look for when searching? wire size? How do I know if it is compatible? Not to good at electrical yet  and wouldn't even where to plug it when I got it since I don't know which wires are what. :/ Thanks for reading/ future advice.

there's a guy here building a "clear" points cover with a strobe to flash every revolution of the crank. you could put a little sender unit next to the strobe and send the signal to a digital readout implanted in your goggles or eye glasses, couldn't you? That'd be bad ass as ichiban moto would say. then, you could mount beverage holders in place of speedo and tach.

Here are a few that come to mind. I donno how much $$$ your looking to spend but from what i have seen the aftermarket electronic stuff is pretty spendy and is gonna take some wiring to get them to work. There are also the mechanical gauges that are alot cheaper just keep in mind you need to get them with the right internal ratio's to work with the 750 tach drive and speedo drive.

Recently got an Acewell 2853 Digital Speedometer . About $180 AU.
Speed easy to read but the idiot lights aren't very bright during the day, zip tied the sensor to the old cable at the wheel, (still on, but capped off behind headlight for now.) Just stuck the magnet on the hub on the steel hub cover. Tacho was unreliable until I wired it straight to the coil, instead of winding it around the HT lead.

Has a functions to record average speed, 2 trip meters, odometer, running hours,  total ignition on hours, clock, flash at selectable redline, highest revs and speed, can set for digital tach readout, as well as around edge of face, kph/mph. fuel gauge, (can be turned off)
