Its all about the kids around my house at x-mas.
Once the tree is gone and the house lights packed away, Ive got my pennies saved for a pair of Latigo 2 RR gauntlet gloves and a new 7-step steering dampener.

Got my very own tool box for my spare parts and Honda-centric tools.  No longer have to haul 'em around in a Walker's Shortbread tin.

Well my boys pitched in with my wife and got me a motorcycle lift, that was my early Christmas present that I got about a month ago and then I got a couple of new torque wrenches, one inch pound and the other foot pound. What turned out to be the coolest gift was the color blind corrective sunglasses my wife and I got for our oldest son. I have no clue how the science behind them works because when I put them on nothing changed, yellow still looked yellow, blue was still blue and so on but I'm not color blind either however when our son put them on they about blew him away because for the first time in his life he was able to see color. In between all the "is that what that really looks like?" and "WOW" comments it was also a very moving moment that almost brought our 24 year old son to tears especially when he saw the colors of a sunset that evening. I told him to please not wear them while driving until he got over the WOW factor but nope he didn't listen. I got a call from him telling me how he momentarily didn't know what to do when he encountered his first traffic light and saw the green light as actually being green. :) The glasses weren't cheap either but seeing how well the worked for our son they were worth every penny.

I can relate to that a bit. When our boys were young my wife and I would focus more on getting our kids gifts for Christmas than for ourselves, now that both are out and have good jobs they're the ones buying my wife and I cool stuff. Everything kind of went full circle .

One of my Daughters got me an indoor /outdoor thermometer, takes like 5 batteries between the two pieces, must have 8 buttons, she says its the top of the line and you can do all kinds of stuff with it...
I checked it out the other day and it said the temp outside was 27. I didn't like that, so I pushed the button with the arrow pointing UP a couple times.
Well, When I checked it again today, it was 34.
Damn , That worked good!!
I'm fixin' to push that button allot next time ,  It'll be ridin' weather soon !!!
Wish I'd known about this thing last year.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.
550 Snowbike -Somebody had to do it.

That's fascinating Scott, where did you get the colorblind sunnies? I'm color blind too, but not as bad as your son, I have problems distinguishing between black/dark blue/dark green etc, can't read the numbers in a "Confetti" test for crap, etc.

I won a pair of french sunglasses many years ago, they had brown lenses, and they really brightened up the colors of everything for me, I almost had a moment like your son did when he saw color for the first time!

Tell your son that color blind guys are very handy as forward scouts in Special Forces, as they can see "thru" camouflage. What that means is that a color blind guy's brain isn't confused by artificial colors and shapes like that of a guy with normal color perception. Also, color blind guys have got way better night vision than normal guys, so it's almost like a super power, especially now that he can get color perception correcting glasses. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I'm also color blind.....don't see most of the numbers in those tests. When I joined the Navy back in 74' they wouldn't let me be an aviation mechanic. Didn't want me wiring up their jets I guess!! I didn't know these glasses existed. I will be searching for them!!

Me too Fred, when I joined the army in 1977 they'd only let me be a cook, a clerk, or a storeman. 12 years later they offered me a posting in the Commando Regiment, so I reminded them that I'm color blind, but they explained that it didn't matter any more, color blind was cool.

I took the posting and had a ball jumping out of perfectly good airplanes etc, but couldn't help but wonder if they'd ever have told me that I had a lot more choices if they didn't want me to take that posting? Arseholes............. ;D

I saw a vid about them on FB and brought it to my kids attention but he wasn't impressed at first because he's tried other glasses that really didn't do anything except add more contrast. It wasn't until a boss of his at work who's also color blind bought a pair and had my kid check them out and I then got a message from him saying he changed his mind and would like to try them out. Be forewarned though they're not cheap, the basic pair I got our son cost $300 and goes up from there. You can get them with prescription lens too but that's when the price shoots up even more. All kinds of frame options but you need to take their color blindness test to see what spectrum of color you have issue with and the site will then tell you what particular lens you need and then choose what shade you want them in. It's a short test.

Being they're not cheap I'm not going to stick my neck out and say they will work for everyone who's color blind so PLEASE do your research before taking my word for it. For my son he says it really helps him with reds and yellows and even colors he thought he could see clearly were actually different. He always thought his 750 was a pale blue when it's actually a very solid/deep blue metallic so it blew him away when he saw the color of his bike the way it is. I you were to take the time to watch any of their vids that show people trying them for the first time I can say my sons reaction was pretty much the same, I talked with him today and he said he doesn't leave the house without them on because he's still soaking in all the new colors he seeing.

As far as any special forces are concerned that's a no. When still in HS he tried to enlist in the Army but shortly afterwards he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and the Army recruiter said no. Enough of me talking, here's a link to the site if you want more info. http://enchroma.com/product-category/color-blindness-glasses/

Ha ha, after electrocuting myself twice Steve, I stay away from wiring anything. I did do a bomb disposal course back in the 1990's, but the good thing with that was that I didn't have to cut the red wire or cut the green wire, I just had to place a slab of plastic explosive a couple of mm away from the MEO and light the fuse, so no sneaky electrickery to worry about............. ;D

+1.....Can be a pain when wiring up these old Hondas...

Oh and don't I know it. He once changed bars on his 750 and disconnected the wiring in the headlight bucket. He did number the wires but many of those #'s came off when pushing the wires through the new bars. When I got there the bike was doing all kinds of goofy stuff so I popped the headlight out and saw the mess inside and just shook my head, he did have them all connected .......just not all of them to the matching color wire , took me about 2 hours to get the wiring sorted out.
