a ditch pump flow meter scottly ?
Pretty close, Simon, but it would also work with your 1/2-of-a-Volkswagen rocking-horse. :P ;D
It is indeed a part of a flow meter; it's a laminar flow element, calibrated to flow 100 CFM when the pressure differential between the two ports is 8" of water. The element itself is made from many very small tubes of .001" wall stainless steel, which makes it look something like a lens when looking through it.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Very kool! Did you get the Calibration Curve Table that came with it from the factory?

Hey Keith, no, sadly I didn't get the original curve table, but since the calibration tag expired over 30 years ago, it might not be accurate anyway? I could send it in for re-calibration with a new table, but it would probably be very expensive. I was going to use it directly attached to the bottom of a 750 head to measure flow, until I realized how sensitive to dust and debris the flow element is, so I will use it to calibrate a DIY flow-bench; it should still be within +/- a few percent, and weather conditions still need to be factored in to correct to standard measurements. My dyno has a weather station, but I will have to manually log everything by hand, then crunch the numbers. I'm not so much concerned about absolute flow as I am with a measurable improvement in flow, and then how it acts on the dyno. ;D
