Yozzer beautiful build and love that gas tank - what is it and where did you get it? Does it mount with stock mounts? Petcock on either side? looks like a 5-gallon tank?

That is also the best custom oil tank I have seen on a CB750.

Cant wait to see this bike out on the road - where are you in the UK?

The gas tank is one that I had made Andy .by someone local to me I'm in Barnsley south Yorkshire .

Fitted my exhaust today but when it's all tightened up it touches the sump .it's from carpys .has anyone else had this problem bike is a f2 78

Can you post up a photo of your pipe on the bike? It sounds like it might be a quality control issue, but it's best to show a photo. If so, I am sure Carpy will send you another one.

That sucks! I know that a few folks have had fitment issues with his pipes, but Carpy does have a good record making things right. Plus, he's a pommy, so I'm sure he'll take care of you!

While i'm no fan of Carpy, if you fit a rear mount on that pipe, you should be able to clear the sump, ideally, you want the pipe as snug to the engine as you can get it, without touching of course...

Hmmm. The fins on the sump help to cool the pooled oil before it recirculates. Shaving the fins may help the pipe clear the sump, but given the lack of any gap to the hot pipe and smaller fins your oil may run hotter.

It's too bad this is not the 2-piece pipe, where you could have the end piece bent to create additional clearance. You want to be careful how much clearance you try to create by applying force at the end of the pipe (via a bracket) with the pipe attached. You do not want to apply force to the pipe when it is connected to the head as you can damage the head.

Do you have a decent muffler shop nearby that may be able to adjust the bends at or after the collector to give you more of a gap to the sump?

Don't worry about the small clearance to the sump, as long as its not touching its all good...

I like my pipes as tight to the engine as possible, lots of bikes are set up like this, just use a bracket to take the pipe off the sump, thats all that needed, don't grind fins off the sump, stupid advice...

I agree with Retro. Using a bracket at the tail, you can "shove" the pipe down and forward, thereby forcing it away from the motor more than enough to have the clearance required.

Shave cooling fins? Someone needs to stay out of the sun...

I would try to do the shoving and bending with the pipe NOT attached to the head. It could cause undue stress on the aluminum exhaust ports -- just like some folks don't bother to use a bracket for the tail end of their exhaust.

Without it being mounted at the front, there's no ability to lever the pipe and locate the position of the tailpipe for a bracket to be made. Certainly don't treat it like a gorilla and a Samsonite, but some pressure on it will be fine.
