Fork Assembly

I'm trying to assemble the fork tubes on a '78 b750. A book I have says to apply thread sealer to the threads and shoulder of the bolt that attaches to the piston, and torque to 35 to 40  ft/lbs. What type of thread sealer do you recommend? And does 35 to 40 ft/lbs seem to be too much for a small bolt like that? And if that is the correct torque spec, how does one keep the piston from spinning while torquing? Thanks.

Good video, thanks. Picked up some useful information. I keep forgetting about youtube. But from what I've seen, no thread sealer, just the copper washer. And he listed no torque spec for that bolt.

An 8mm bolt will be happy at 10-18ftlbs. Should be plenty to crush that washer.

If the damper still turns before you get there, push the spring in and put the top nut on. Maybe after clamping them in the tree.  That should hold the damper in place to get it tight.
