New(ish) from Madison, WI
« on: January 14, 2016, 01:06:38 PM »
Greetings! I got my bike this past summer on my dad's recommendation for a first bike (his first bike was a 750). It's a bit of a project bike, there's some work on it that I want to do myself (mostly undoing some poorly done cafe racer modifications, but also a charging system that seems to be on the fritz) so I'll probably be reaching out for advice/assistance.

Also, if you're also in the Madison/south-central Wisconsin area, let me know!

Welcome!  Post up some pics when you get a chance.  If some cafĂ© mods were done, and done poorly, the PO probably also messed with the electrical - hence the charging issues.  Or - could be a bad battery . . . It'll all get sorted.  You're in the right place.

Greetings! That's interesting that you'd seen it floating around on CL. I picked it up off of eBay last summer. It looks pretty nice and the motor runs really well, but there some stuff that needs to be worked on too. Definitely looking forward to getting my hands dirty.

Did the eBay listing include a video of it running? There is a story behind the bike as most all CB have. If you want I can send you a Pm about what I know. If not no biggie. Either way if you need any help, I am more than willing to help when I have time. Also, did the bike come with a title?

The ebay listing did have a video of it running, and it did come with a title. You've definitely piqued my curiosity. Send me a PM.

**EDIT** Hey Tews, I just looked through your topic history and found what you're referring to... now I'm really interested...

Great looking bike!

I live in Mequon, Wisconsin and have a 1976 CB550F Super Sport that I picked up three months ago.  Here are the things that I have done so far:

Re-built the carburetors (all the jets and gaskets)
Electronic Ignition
Replaced the rear tail light and turn signals with smaller versions
Eliminated the front turn signals for LED's inside the headlight
New vintage Dunlap K70 tires... one size up on front and back
Re-upholstered the seat (turned out really well)
New Petcock

Working on old inline four motorcycles allows me to 'get my motorcycle fix' during the winter months... keeps me sane!

Let me know if I can help,

Gary

The Dunlap K70 tires are nice and not expensive.  They are considered a 'Vintage tire' so they are not available in extra wide sizes.  I go the widest tire they have for both front and rear wheel:

Front 19" 3.75 wide

Rear 18" 4.00 wide

Basically one size up from stock.  These are the widest K70's that are available... and they are the 'correct' size tires for the stock rims.  You can go up 4.50 wide with other manufacture's tires but anything more should not be used on the stock rims.

These comments only cover the look and fit of the tires... I have not put any miles on them yet.
