Parking brake function
« on: January 11, 2016, 02:43:16 PM »
My 750A is hard to push is this normal? Is the parking brake sticking? How does one set and release it? It's worse when the bike is cold. Thanks in advance for any help.

The Hondamatic should roll as easy as any bike. It's more than likely that your front brake is dragging as opposed to the rear brake. Put the bike on the center stand and see if the rear wheel is dragging. To use the parking brake, apply the rear pedal while pulling out on the knob on the left side. To release, depress the button and push in the knob and push down on the pedal to release the brake.

The park brake control knob should be mounted under the left side of the fuel tank about 5 inches behind the petcock. The cable goes from there to the peg mount on the right side.

But you have to push down the rear brake lever after you pulled the knob to engage the brake. Push the button on the knob and then the lever again to release

That's assuming it works ;)

If the bike has been sitting for a few years, its likely to need cleaning and proper cable lubrication.

The actual purpose of the parking brake is to hold the bike on any slope because you can't just leave it in gear to keep it from rolling.

Hi,  I know this original post is almost two years old,  but I was wondering what ever became of this situation? I recently acquired a '77 CB750A and after googling the same issue I let me to your post. Far as I can tell, it's my rear wheel that seems very tight,  it will not spin on the center-stand if you try to spin it with your hand. The bike is not in 1st or 2nd gear,  and the park brake is 'off' as far as I can tell.  I don't hear anything rubbing... did you find out why your's is this way?  Thx,  Dave-

Check your rear brake operation. You could try loosening the rear brake adjuster to see if that frees up the rear wheel. The brake pedal pivot may be rusted and not moving freely, mine was like that and caused the rear brake to drag.
