Man Cup Street Et rule changes 2016
« on: January 13, 2016, 10:04:39 pm »
Looks like they decided to make some changes to street ET. Some i fully agree with that had gotten out of hand, others i totally have issue with as far as awarding show up points without having to "take the tree". I call BS on that one.  Nevertheless, we're all operating on an even playing field again- no more funny clutches. I'm wondering how tech is going to police that rule.

Okay, I copied and pasted it here, although I went directly to the link I posted on this site. I still have an issue with a man just showing up, buying a tech card and not at least taking the tree in time trials. This was never done before and isn't fair to the person who took time to prepare his bike, spent the money to drive to the race and paid entry fees and then made every effort to get that bike down the track, at least in time runs. No reflection on anyone except the rules committee.

At least they made the funny clutches illegal in street ET to level the playing field but this will cause a loss of racers who crossover into multiple classes with the same bike. Those clutches should not have been allowed in the first place but once they opened the door, they shouldn't change the rules for parity sake.  But the bottom line is; they didn't make just one and anybody can buy one if you want to spend the money. I don't feel its fair at this point to take them away.

Okay, rant over for the day.

ManCup announces changes for 2016 ET classes

ManCup motorcycle drag racing announces the following changes to their three ET (MPS Pro ET, Street ET and D&G Chassis V-Twin ET) classes moving forward beginning with the upcoming 2016 season.

Highlights of the changes include:
•Cross-Talk ON in MPS Pro ET
•Transformation of the buyback process
•Modifications to the points earning system
•No double entries
•Nominal purse increase

The off-season has been busy for ManCup ownership. After extensive dialogue with racers, sponsors and industry experts, changes have been decided upon for the ET Classes.
1.Cross Talk will be “ON” at all races in MPS Pro ET
2.The buyback process will be replaced. A more simple and straightforward approach will replace it. ALL first round losers will automatically advance back into the second round. With the completion of the second, and all subsequent elimination rounds thereafter, upon losing, every rider will be out of competition.
3.The points earnings will change to reflect the updates made to the buyback process. All riders will now earn 21 points for entry, tech, first and second round of elimination rounds regardless of performance. This is up from 11 points awarded for entry and a minimum of 0, with a maximum of 20 additional round points through round two, contingent if a rider bought back or not. Rounds won points will remain unchanged at 10 per round but will begin accrual in the 3rd round and beyond. Winner and runner-up bonus points are also unchanged.
4.Double entering a class will no longer be allowed in any class. A rider can not ride the same, nor a different, bike in one class.
5.Nominal increases to both the entry fees and the purses will be implemented. Specific details of such will be announced upon finalization.
6.Updates to the clutch rule in Street ET . Engine driven (MTC Gen II, Hayes, Rock, etc…) lockup clutches will no longer be allowed along with aftermarket slider clutches. Wheel driven lockup clutches will remain legal. All engine-driven lockup and slider clutch entries will now have to compete in MPS Pro ET . Street ET is an entry level class and these high end, drag race specific clutches need to be moved to the higher level of competition found in MPS Pro ET .
7.Elimination of the Sunday morning time trial. Sunday morning will begin with the first round of ET eliminations. There will be a very quick clean-up time run for any SUNDAY ONLY entry, eligible only to a bike and/or rider who has not been down the track at all at any point prior. the elimination process will begin directly behind the clean-up time run.
8.Changes D&G Chassis V-Twin qualifying procedure. All entries in D&G Chassis V-Twin will now run round one and two of eliminations on a random pairing basis rather than the previous method. An elimination ladder will be produced beginning with round three and will be based on winning riders reaction times in round two.

ManCup event director Jay Regan added ” Dave Schnitz and I have spent countless hours brainstorming a multitude of ideas on how to improve the running of our ManCup events. We received tremendous rider input after the Mann Hill Garage World Finals presented by Kibblewhite Precision Machine alongside a multitude of conversations with others involved in motorcycle drag racing on various levels. We several meetings to discuss these potential changes with class sponsors and other industry professionals at the PRI show last month. A lot of thought and planning has gone into these changes before we decided upon implementing them. The ManCup is committed to the sport for the long run and we feel these changes are the in the best interest of our ET classes moving forward.” Regan closed with “this is just the first of what will be a series of changes we plan to install related to the running of our ManCup events, so stay tuned”

FRANK IN THE 10'S : NO SUNDAY TIME RUN ????? and the DA changes from a big minus or higher plus from the last pass of the day before = you better have a weather station. Maybe DAN or DAVE will sell weather stations at a good price so the budget racer can be in the game.  ER ER ER is not a slider like my HONDAMATIC powerglide that shifts from L to D throttle wide open and light toe shift ????? Buy backs are first round loser and need to run in a loser bracket that splits the buy back cash with MAN CUP and w/no points.

I would agree. They have basically set up Street ET as "double elimination" and there should be no 1st round points awarded to the loser. Tech points should remain at 11 points, and then 10 points for each round WON...

Looks like racing starts second round...first round now a timed run that doesn't matter who wins...might as well run 1st round heads up, be quicker!   ::), Bill

That's exactly what Gladys and I discussed last night. By taking away the Sunday time run, they're trying to compensate by not awarding points for a first round win or loss. And once again, it forces a rider to pay the damn buyback fees so his points can start. As Pops pointed out, the weather is going to change from the day before so everyone is taking a crap shoot at Sunday mornings dial in. The man with good data, a consistent bike and a weather station is likely the one that won't be going to the buy back booth.Im beginning to consider going to race with IDBL in Maryland or NHDRO. Man Cup has taken a turn for the worse as far as ET racing is concerned. We get the short end of the stick and pay the purse for the other classes. This is what happens when parts suppliers become promoters. The little guy always gets screwed.

Frank,  no mention of a monetary buyback. Says all who lose 1st round automatically go to round 2.

That's the way I read it. The buyback will be collected up front by an increase in initial entry fees.

Here you go Bill. And yes, it does seem that they built in the buyback money to the upfront entry fees as Wilbur stated.

5.Nominal increases to both the entry fees and the purses will be implemented. Specific details of such will be announced upon finalization.

Lets see, 7 hours to SGMP or 7 hours to MIR. Time to do some thinking.

Well, since I compete in ManCup, I will add my .02 cents.

First, I'm glad they will use Cross Talk in ProET.  That's why i spent the money on a delay box in the first place!

Now, I agree that the funny clutches shouldn't be allowed.  It is STREET ET!!  Hand clutches!  I would go as far as to not allow air shifters, foot shift only.

Why, oh why do we need a V-Twin Street ET class?  Major time waster.  Another 30 minutes wasted on a time limited schedule >:(.  It's still a street bike, it's still has an engine.  Who cares how many cylinders it has.  This is just pandering to a small segment of riders who DON'T WANT TO COMPETE with anybody else.  Your racing the clock, who is in the other lane doesn't matter.  If you have a better package than Jeremy Teasley, you win.

And since some of you know I don't have a street bike and consider my opinions void, I am open to riding one if someone needs a rider, (hint, hint ;D)

I'm not as smart as I look, but I am pretty.

Dave,
I think the main reason they held off so long with crosstalk is due to the number of street bikes that run in pro et. Its related to clutch loading versus a dragbike with a two step. Anyway, I think just about everyone at this point has a technique that evens the playing field.

As to V-twin et, it's a class with both dragbikes and street bikes. They don't allow delay boxes. I agree that class could be assimilated into street et or pro et.

Right now, I'm on the line as to which series I plan to dedicate myself to this season. I'm still leaning towards Man Cup only because the wife races in pro et and refuses to give up her delay box. IDBL doesn't allow them but they do have basically the same classes as the Cup. Payouts are definitely better.

I agree with all you said there Dave. When I first looked at coming over to race, I scoured the forums for the best set up and class.
It seemed that the consensus of opinion was against bars and boxes in ET racing so that left the Street ET class.
I checked with the Tech Director for rules at MIR, told him what bike I had and he said no problem, come on down and then the race director over ruled him and said no you can't. We went anyway and had to race in the Pro ET class, Ask Billy Benton who knocked the area champion out in the first round. hahahaha
If I could still race and if I had to, I would run the bike in Pro ET. There will be a lot of top runners missing from this years championship, it should make it a lot easier for a SOHC Honda to make some money.
Good luck guys.

FRANK in the 10's : A friend that I race with every weekend for the past 20 years went to INDY NHDRO this past year 2015 with his NEW $20,000 or more [ GOT BRUCE  7.90-8.20 ET ] KZ built drag bike, he got one pass in 3 days. When we were all at the track the next weekend him and his brother said it was a waste of time and money......... NO MORE.  Man Cup needs a little tinkering to make it better but remember this MAN CUP is owned by SUPPLIERS and Former Motorcycle Drag Racers  [ DAN, JAY, DAVE and their lawyer MR.8.20 KENNY ESQ. ] that gave all a place to show their SKILLS and ABILITIES on any weekend. Look at all the past bike only events that were buried long ago !!! Years ago IDBA had a riders meeting in the stands at the end of Saturdays time trials or races, they handed out a time trial pass ticket for the SUNDAY morning one time trial only , I missed the first time they ever did that , but NEVER AGAIN and I had a weather station. If you-all are looking for perfection you will lose that 1320' race= tinkering a little could help a lot.
