CB750k 4 into 4 exhaust... NOS or Aftermarket?

Hi all. I am a new member to the SOHC forums. I've found lots of help but can't seem to find any posts that help me with a current issue...

I have a 75 cb750K5 with a 4-2 exhaust.  I want to replace the exhaust to get the original look (love those 4 pipes).

I've seen the Genuine Honda pipes for about 1700 euros on CMS (and $3000 on eBay), and since the euro is close to the dollar I'm thinking about going for it. I've also seen reproductions by YAMIYA and Everett Powersports for about 1200-1300, some of whom claim that the finish is better than the factory finish.  Also, CMS sells a Non OE alternative for less than 1000 euros.

Does anyone have experience with reproduction 4 into 4's? Ive seen someone recommend Benji's stainless steel pipes, but I'm not interested in those.

This was discussed recently in another thread, the repops are getting good reviews.

You will also need to get a hardware kit and heat shieds, but still worth it if your bike is worthy.

I have a NOS set from CMSNL (341s) and a repop set from Yamiya (300s). I've posted this before, from what I can say having them both on hand, the OE Honda ones have a significantly better chrome finish than the repops. Can't exactly comment on build quality of the repops since I have yet to install them, but they do seem to be pretty solid. Chrome is definitely nowhere near as good as the OE ones for sure.

Couple weeks ago I stumbled across a complete set of original HM341's on CL for $450.00 that were in good shape an only couple hours away from me. Lost out to another sohc4 owner :( that got to the seller right before me. Don't know if they are a member here or not but he got some nice pipes. Congrats!!

I have Yamiya no numbers (HM300 replica). Fits as 4 gloves! Need to be mounted with care without hammer the pipes at front which is not needed when doing it correctly, especially no 2.
HM300 has better flow than HM341, important if you have a modified engine.
I have the large bottle sized diffusers out when my engine need flow. Nice sound !!

I have a '75 cb550k that is in excellent shape...other than the exhaust.  It was rusted through completely at the joints, so I replaced it with a aftermarket 4 into 1 that was manufactured in Long Beach CA in the 70's.  Found it in eBay.  I'd love to put a 4 into 4 back on but am having the same trouble finding something that doesn't look cheap.  I love the Benjie's 4 into 4 polished stainless.  Anyone have experience with Benjie's?  And how interchangeable are CB exhausts from 74 - 78?  Thinking of buying a fixer bike to cafe, and potentially using the 4 into 1 on it.  Thanks.

Yes, better sound too! Check the last photo where the diffusers are on the floor, I have them out. Going in without the fluffy stuff when doing the mandatory vehicle check.

If you have 836 only without other mods, diffusers can most likely be in, but without the restrictive white "wool". It sounds very good that way and not too loud, even for the law.

I'll see coming spring how the 4-4 will perform on the dyno.

CB550 4-4 must be cheaper somewhere when they are sold here where they charge a lot for the yamiya hm300 replicas.

My compliments Per, that's becoming a very, VERY nice bike.
When the performance is going to be equally good, I might sneak up to your place and switch it for my old 400 :)

Agreed, and thanks for the link.  The OEM chrome exhaust through Motorradteile seems to be the same cost as the Benjie's stainless, at around $1200...if I'm converting EUR to US$ correctly.  Neither would be the same as the stock "trumpet" style exhaust, but I'm ok with that...always thought it was the goofiest part of the bike.  Stainless would probably sound better, and be more "locally" made.  Chrome would be more period, as they changed the style of the exhaust later in the 70's.  Tough choice as $1200 is a little over half of what I paid for the bike in the first place!

Yes, you have my address :) This forum give my ideas how to improve the bike (drain the wallet)!
I owe the bike a restore back to the shape I found her 37 years ago. Time really flies.

I have a NOS seat in a box to be used when closer OEM look is needed. NOS CB parts increase in price.
Headlight holders and new fenders are on the list too :) Plus an extra CB750 project for my leftover parts.
