New and vin help identification
« on: December 12, 2015, 05:07:41 PM »
Today I picked up what the previous owner told me is a 79 cb650. Glad to be here.

I do need some help though. The vin starts with rc05. Is this a 79 or 80?  As you can see it has the curved seat frame. I thought 79s have straight frames.

Also does anyone see anything else that is obvious that can provide me some info. There are tons of wires and hoses that are disconnected that I'm sure I'll need help finding where they go. Thanks everyone. First on the docket is to strip it.

Looks like it could be an 80. If i remember correctly only 79 had spoke wheels, but the 79 motor didn't come painted black. What does the vin tag say? It should be on the neck of the frame.

It's a little motor and likes having the tits revved off it.

The motor has been painted by a previous owner. The vin tag says manufactured on 8/79. Vin starts with rc05.

Howdy!

Built that late in '79 it's surely an '80 model.

You can get the shop manual here: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/shop-manual

Don't worry, it's in english.

According to the motorcycle ID guide published by American Honda for USA models, you have a 1980 model with vin: RC05.
