New owner Orlando Florida
« on: January 19, 2016, 07:29:44 AM »
Hello all!

I have been in love with the SOHC K models for a few years now and finally made the leap a few days ago. I have so many questions so I figured I would join up to get some help and advice on my new CB!

I purchased my 1974 Cb 750 last Sunday, So haven't had a chance to ride her for more than about half an hour as I am away for work during the weeks.

I tried to sign up for the gallery like the new member sticky said to , but unfortunately that website was unavailable. I will check back later to see if I can upload some pics of the new scoot this weekend!

Welcome aboard! I'm in Saint Cloud and work in Orlando.  8)

I actually have seen your profile picture bike on craigslist several times and was strongly considering yours as a possibility for my first purchase, it was slightly above my price range though :( I am regretting it now as yours is probably in better mechanical condition as mine! I am not mechanically inclined and am currently looking for someone to possibly be "my guy" for mechanical work , any local recommendations?

Welcome!! I've got the the same bike... We'll I did I kinda cut her all up.

The bike is road worthy, the guy said Jupiter Cycles, in Jupiter Florida did a lot of work to it (You know how Craigslist sellers like to upsell though :/ ha ha) the previous owner said he received the bike with the baffles removed from the 341 pipes and he has since replaced them and he says it runs better. It has a "bog" feeling when I get on the throttle in 2ND or 3rd and am assuming carbs, since everything I read on here and other places just seem to instantly point a finger in that direction  :D

Ouch! I don't have any experience with local shops. Most shops do not want to work on bikes this old, and often times those that are willing to "attempt" repairs don't know what they are doing and charge too much. I'm pretty particular when it comes to vehicle repairs, especially when that vehicle only has two wheels, and pretty much do all of my own automotive/motorcycle maintenance and repairs.

Your best bet would be to do the 3000 mile tune up and see if that helps. These are some of the simplest machines you will find, although four carbs are a PITA to deal with. I've gotten pretty good at them, but I still don't particularly care to work on them. Member harisuluv here on the forum does an outstanding job rebuilding carbs (based on the glowing reviews) and would be money well spent if the carbs are indeed the issue. I would be willing to vacuum sync the carbs if you have them rebuilt, but definitely do the 3K tune up first. It could just be points and or timing issue.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, these bikes are a blast to ride and will reward you with many trouble free miles when cared for reasonably well. I've still got my first K8 CB750 that I bought back in 86'. It still runs quite well in spite of the neglect and abuse I've managed to heap upon it. Over 60,000 miles on that one and I would ride it anywhere. I actually rode it to Northwest Ohio and back (3000 mi) in the summer of 2014.

The weather should be good this weekend, clear and cool after rain on Friday. Shoot me a PM and we'll see about meeting up this weekend or some weekend soon.

Bike week will be here before you know it!  8)
