Model Year Time Frames Question
« on: January 21, 2016, 07:25:03 PM »
 8)

My recently acquired CB500 starts CB500-21025XX ( last two numbers hidden by marking them as X ). According to the CB500 Guide http://www.sohc4.net/cb500-model-guide/ the 1973 models began with CB500-210001 and introduced 04/10/1973. My data plate on the frame says 8/72. Understanding that it may  have rolled off the assembly line in 8/72 and then put on a ship bound for the U.S.A. but, being completed in August of 1972, is it feasible that this is for sure a 1973 model ?

TIA

If it's a K2 the gauges will be the small ones, a 73 K3 will have the large gauges. My 73 was a re-titled K2. When I wrecked it the K3 parts didn't fit.

Yes, it's a '73, why do you question it? VIN determines year model.

The 8/72 on the VIN plate is what made me want to find out for sure. Being very familiar with Triumphs and BSA's, a bike assembled in August of 1972 would be a '72 model. But yeah, by VIN number the CB500 is a '73 model. Candy Bacchus Olive here we come ! Thanks
