1974 CB750 Bobber
« on: January 22, 2016, 10:15:44 AM »
Still a rookie both on here and in the bike community in general. Here's my '74 build thus far... Getting the custom exhaust fitted this weekend. Doing this in a cluttered garage with limited lighting in subzero temps is enough to make a dude grind his teeth to powder.

Following!! I am going to check out a few different CB 750 engines tomorrow to start my build. I have a left over neck and tubing from a previous build that I'll be using to build my frame from scratch. I like what you have done so far, I'll also be doing a Bobber of sorts.

looking good.  keep an eye on those straps under the seat.  you will have a lot of stress where those weld to the frame.

Don't worry about being "nice"... I need input. I can handle criticism without the sugar.
I don't know what you mean about the covers though. I haven't mounted the rear fender yet or quite a few other things. I looked those up and still am scratching my head and slobbering on myself.

I keant cover up the area of the frame with the flat straps so it looks cleaner.

If it were mine I would tie in the tubes to strengthen that area and build a cover plate for it like 754 was talkin about.

I like where its goin though.

Ok. I get what you're saying. I'll have to check for allowance because my oil tank is also a battery box combo and the battery is going to rest beneath the seat. Should be fine though because I laid the seat flat with no springs and there was still a pretty decent gap before the battery.

Nice work so far!  Could you post a pic with the tank off.  It looks like you have done a little cutting and pasting, just curious.

When the bike is back in my custody I absolutely will. It's getting a custom exhaust built at Strange Cycle here in Cleveland right now. We did cut the bottom two bars right behind the coil housing. Then we heated them and bent them in and up to the center spine. They're still functional by means of support, but also out of the way for the petcock on this sportster tank. Good eye.
