I have only ever ridden the bike once, and I don't recall any issues shifting... :-\

I will snap a few more close ups when I am back at my shop.

Back to the bike:

Is this plate substantial enough for me to use (with tabs on the underside) as the anchor point under the front of the seat for my monoshock?

Wait! MoMo shock mount? I read that as a seat mount. Oops.

What's the dimensions of that? And how will you attach it?

If it spans the width of the seat rails, i think it could use a doubler..anotr plate or maybe some 1 or 1 1/4  channel across the top.

It is the same shape and size as the tank mounting plate that attaches to the rubber mount, the half moon plate.

I am thinking about boxing it off to add strength as well

Better pics to come...

Bryan, a TON of force is fed into the shock mounts, especially at the end of a lever in a monoshock position. Err on the side of beefy.

I would add gussets to it.

I would double the thickness of the metal, weld it to the frame and then weld 2 small gussets on each side.
Considering that monoshock will be sitting beneath your seat, the last thing in the world you want is for the metal to break and the shock to get inserted some place in your rectum...right before you wreck and go down.

Whoa, I kinda got a tad behind on this, and looks like progress is still going pretty well. You do some mighty fine work and put slot of thought into a build and it shows. Gotta love the tips and suggestions, from folks here, as it has been said, lots of Valuable info on this forum, from lots of folks who don't mind offering it.  ;)

The shock should be mounted to brackets which in turn are welded to the plate. The brackets should be 3/16" and thus the plate should be as well. As for strength, 3/16" plate on edge is a LOT stronger than you realize. The brackets apply the force against the plate, which will be welded to the underside of the seat rails (if I understand you correctly?) As long as the plate and brackets are properly welded, I think you'll be safe.

If the plate and brackets are 1/8" you're probably on the borderline of strong enough. And a lot of really depends on how the shock is designed and mounted. Some act as dampers on pivot arms, some are direct to frame. But the shock itself takes up a lot of the force that would be otherwise transferred to the frame. This is not an inducement to short cut safety, just an explanation.

I'd defer to whomever is building your monoshock for their guidance as a final judgement.

Yep it will be horizontal with the two brackets under it to hold the spring. (this is the cardboard template)
