yep, it is definitely a 'both cheek, full ass situation'.  It is more teleportation than acceleration with this thing.  you just twist the throttle and you find yourself existing farther down the road instantaneously

This morning I started it up (I get it warmed up at least once a month) and the brake lever has almost no resistance. It feels like there is absolutely no fluid in the lines or something (but the reservoir is full)..

Im guessing it just needs to be bled, but with all of the potential things that could go wrong with working on this one myself I'm just going to take it in and have it serviced. The last thing I need it to grab a handful of brake that isn't there...   :o

Likely due for a bleed and maybe some new fluid (depending on its age/color).  That RR is the $hit!  I no longer have anything that could dream of keeping up, but I'll go for a ride anyway.  Marina Del Rey is a fairly short hop (on the weekends at least) from Long Beach.

That would be great, we could also meet up at my secret lair where I'm building my bike (downtown culver city).  I'd love to talk shop with someone who knows more than I do about CBs and get a second set of eyes on my project.

There's a bleeder on the MC and the caliper. (7mm if I recall correctly) Its super easy to bleed yourself. Use ONLY DOT 4 fluid though. If yours is like mine, theres a "sponge" in the MC to prevent the fluid from aerating under heavy riding. Carefully lift it out and verify the fluid level.

And FFS, don't ever damage the reservoir. On mine, the reservoir is part of the MC and to replace it cost me $450!!!  >:( All because my son tipped the damn thing in the garage and cracked the reservoir threads! $450 to repair plastic threads.... Did I say I was pissed?

Sorry, forgot my place. I'll head over to the Pissed Off thread. Pardon me while I kill someone-

Haha that is terrible!  I will be very careful when I look at it!

I was doing some research on a S1000rr forum and someone said they didn't want to mess with it themselves because of "the ABS system"... I didn't think that would complicate things, but haven't looked into it further.  Ill dig around!

The bleeder at the MC is almost always under pressure, so simply cracking it you should here a "PFFFT". Once you do, its bled. The ABS is not involved in the bleeding. You won't be bleeding the ABS pump, just the lines and caliper. But you shouldn't need to bleed anything just form it sitting unless you rode on low fluid.

It could also be the pad is worn  ;)

If this is targeted at me, its a plastic reservoir and cap. My lathe and mill can't fix that, doubt yours could either.

There are only 1,300 miles on the bike, so that is unlikely haha

the reservoir looks like it is filled to the brim (above max) im not saying that as a good thing, just something I just noticed. It always felt fine except one day after sitting for 3 weeks or so there was just practically no feel in the lever when I squeezed it at start up...

Do you have a pic of the threads? 200 bux would have gone a long ways toward a solution, when I had the shop..
If this is targeted at me, its a plastic reservoir and cap. My lathe and mill can't fix that, doubt yours could either.

Yes, it was for you..
If I can see the parts, I cant say that..  Let me say though sometimes there is a clever solution.
I made a nice billet reservoir for one guy on here..wish i had a pic or the details..

There was no repairing. The reservoir is integrated into the MC. The plastic threads of the reservoir were broken. I'm pretty good at machining or welding my own stuff. Trust me, I gave it due consideration. There also isn't an aftermarket compatible MC for the model of bike which forced the stock replacement. 2 weeks from Germany was the "expedited" delivery.  :( And the privilege of paying $450 to wait 2 weeks.

But to replace/install took less than 10'. Fully bled at the caliper and MC.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S.
