Yeah, those law-abiding, government-fearing, sissy pants guys don't scare me none! But, alas, I don't drink beer anyway. I'm a dark rum guy if and when I drink. I did have 2 4 fingers cocktails tonight in fact (first in over a year) to watch the supermen/eclipse with my kids. Frickin' clouds...

Ah no fun! well it is just as crappy out here in LA, constant downpour all day.

Good night to spend in the shop, I'm hoping to rebuild the oil pump with Elan's kit =)

AntiSieze.
Dow Hi Temp brake grease.
Red LocTite (motor/exhaust studs)
DOT 3 brake Fluid.
Acetone.
More beer.

The DOW High Temp grease is a High Temp Vacuum & Petcock Grease used in lab work. Ebay sellers will sell you a small container of it or you can go for a big tube. It has an expiration date...don't know what that means with respect to the product performance or suitability.
The Brake Assembly Lube can be bought at NAPA...Silicone used on backs of pads and hardware, piston and seal get the Assembly Lube of course... never want the silicone to contaminate the fluid. The Dow stuff will not migrate or melt at operating temps or above operating temps until it get extremely hot (your brakes would be boiling if it were to attempt to reach that temp...)  So, because it won't melt and run it is ideal for the application.

TwoTired was very wise and he wrote up an excellent brake how to...worth looking up.

I'm guessing it's just a one off Honda + Yosimura put together as a test unit on this bike...  ;D

I'll probably replace the rotor with a stock one, what are the options for bolt on upgraded charging systems? Ricks doesn't look like they make a kit for the 550?

No aftermarket exists for the rotor. What's the inside of the cover look like? I wonder if the damage isn't so bad that you could turn it on a lathe? I know many of the HiPo guys run a lightened rotor, but not sure what effect that has on our anemic charging system  :-\

I just did more research and came back to delete my silly question of whether there were aftermarket options but you caught it before I could haha it looks like the question has been answered a million times..

Here are the rest of the guts:

It's really odd. A couple of them have hardly any mark on them, others have the mark but you can't "feel it" others actually have a small gash that you can feel with your nail...  ???

Sorry, I might have the wrong idea here, but are you talking about the groove around the circumference in the centre of the rotor?
If so, mine's exactly the same (I saw no indication it was from undue damage) & I was under the (possibly mistaken) impression it was something from the production process - maybe something to do with balancing?

I think I remember Dave500 posting about this at some stage, but it's rather difficult to revive some of the past threads these days, even with Google advanced search.
Maybe worth checking with some other 550 owners to see if it's a sometimes a normal occurrence?

Edit : http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=133777.0
Mostly talking about the butt joint, but you can also see the gouge present.

Thanks for that, I was thinking it HAD to be in manufacturing because nothing is touching and there are no marks anywhere on the coil at all.. that makes me feel better.

That system is more than a Rotor, Cam. It's a complete charging system, coils and stator. It is quite trick looking. There's some concern that it won't charge at low RPMs for daily driving etc as it's really targeted towards road race use. It also allows the omission of the battery altogether, though that presents other problems for our bikes in a street application. It surely wouldn't support an M-Unit without a battery.  :)

I am using an M-Unit, it was my understanding that to get the lights to display on the motoscope (turn signals, oil switch, etc) they had to be run to the breakout box?  ???
