Not sure if you could pin the shafts. I think Calj use a dry film on the pins. Not sure if that is one with no wear or a later cover.

The pins push in from inside the cover after the shafts are lined up. Then, secure by nuts on the top of the cover.

I was originally going to post my build on a wordpress site and needed a name for the URL, I was going to do a much more 'blacked out' paint and design scheme so it worked as a working title to use for that and I haven't spent any time coming up with a replacement handle.

I also wanted to build an Instagram account to track the progress and wanted an account tag that was simple. It's also always been a dream of mine to build a car or bike (some sort of machine) that gets featured in a magazine, not for bragging rights but for some validation on craftsmanship and innovation at some level. And when you look bigger than you are, people tend to notice you more. I have already had some progress shots reposted by some fairly sizeable Motorcycle "Instagram pages" which has helped grow my followers to almost 7,000 people. All positioning really. Not saying this bike will be worthy of a feature, but maybe the second or third will!

That's the long winded answer to why I came up with a namesake.

Well I am going to pull the head off tomorrow and dissasemble everything, bag it then send to Nils then on to Mr Rieck!

Any last minute tips or "make sure you dont.." bits of information before I start turning bolts counter clockwise? I have the manuals and videos to guide me

Use JIS screw drivers. Release the valve adjustment screws under the tappets before removing the valve cover. Take lots of pictures. Have fun and post up your progress!

You have the factory manual right Bryan? Give it a read before tearing into that, and as Cal suggests, take lots of photos. If you can lay hands on flats out of egg crates, those are awesome for storing things like the rockers and shafts more or less in position. WRT those, keep track of what was where.

+1000 on the JIS screwdrivers, if you don't have those already, they are a must, as is a good impact driver (not the toy that comes with the Vessel set).

By this do you mean "take the nut all the way off" or just back it way off?

Im good on the impact driver and the JIS screwdrivers

My engine is in a million pieces. SUCCESS!

I'll post some workflow pics soon, but my first question is regarding the transmission. I took the oil pan off and while looking at the gears I noticed a piece of metal between a couple of the gears.

I have a good understanding of how engines work, no understanding of transmissions, so if this is obviously supposed to be there and I'm an idiot, please don't hold back from calling me one :p

How was it shifting ? Looks like part of the shift fork maybe gone,not sure how that would happen ?

Often those fork ends are rough or at least not finished. That one looks rougher than normal (previous contact?) but may have absolutely no negative effect as long as the sliding surfaces are untouched.
