Yeah,  I'm a dumb ass.   

I still have my old rings.  I wonder if I have an oil ring that is good enough to stick in there for now and I will just bore my other cylinders and put in the Crusinimage pistons a little later.   thoughts?

I think that many broken fins will bug you (mostly) if you leave it as is.  You should be able to get a good condition cylinder cheaply on eBay. 

Assuming we are talking about a 650 motor, I wasn't aware that cruzinimage made a 650 kit.  I was only aware of the Dynoman 674 high compression kit, or those like Paulages that have used a larger bore kit requiring some delicate machining work to overlap the sleeves.

 You could send it to Jim to microweld the broken parts back on...would require some finesse to make it not obvious after beingwelded unless Jims welding isn't apparent. Some small diamond bits in a dremel would help and top sides of fins would need cosmetic work and repair would only be apparent from below or at profile if you got that low on the motor to see it.  Rings, well it depends on if it is oversized or stock rings...

Assuming we are talking about a 650 motor, I wasn't aware that cruzinimage made a 650 kit.  I was only aware of the Dynoman 674 high compression kit, or those like Paulages that have used a larger bore kit requiring some delicate machining work to overlap the sleeves.

You learn something new everyday (if you're lucky).  That's great that they are making those for the 650.

My only thought is that they are about the same compression as a stock motor, and only a very small displacement increase to somewhere in the neighborhood of 636-640cc (stock is 626cc). 

This would make more sense to me if your stock bores are tired and you need to go up in size but don't necessarily want a performance motor -- just something to refresh a tired stock engine.  If so, and you are shopping a new cylinder, maybe just get a clean stock cylinder and keep it stock.  Otherwise, if you are going to over-bore, kick up the compression and go with a 674 kit.

Just make sure they are seated well and pressed in place or you might end up with a dropped liner and face another round of engine work. I have a set of overbored cylinders for a HA605 kit that happened to...

David, I believe heat only is the right way to do this. Any time someone else has attempted changing one of my sleeves (for whatever reason) and uses a press, the sleeve settles after a few heat cycles. Use heat to remove, clean well, freeze the sleeves, heat the block and the sleeves drop nicely into place. Just be careful not to allow them to drop without some control & break the flange.

Just the former owner of this had an unfortunate experience in liners not being done properly...
he was done with trying it and reverted to stock bore with overbore for oversized pistons...

That is a good idea.  I got something else I am about to try, but I don't want to spoil it in case it turns out to be a bad idea.  LOL

I just cleaned up the chips and made the other side match.  Gonna repaint it and get new gaskets and just bolt it all up.

You'll know soon enough, when I am chasing you all around the hills.  This does, however, cause me a bit of a delay.
I won't be making it down to MotoGP, as I have a different event to attend that I can't really get out of.

I like the thought of the 674 kit, but $519.00! Damn he wants all the money for those pistons! I get that it's top quality and all of that.   I understand that it is probably well worth it, but the first time I built this bike, I only had $1200 bucks in the whole thing and it was running, driving, and taking me on 1500 mile road trips.

I have kids and they suck up all my spare cash.  Like my daughter hit a curb the other day and blew a tire. I bought the car last year, so I didn't have any kind of tire warranty. $185 later....

Gotcha.  You will still get a nice bump up from the stock 650, and a larger improvement from the 550.

Steve sent me some cb750 carbs, so those will also be on the bike soon!
