I am looking at the Dragon Performance boxes http://www.steeldragonperformance.com/air_boxes_7.html
But I might get crazy and build my own using stock airbox boots and air cleaners for VW dual carbs.  Just need to try to line up holes or cut a new base plate.

Once I get everything mounted in the frame, I can test fit a bunch of styles laying around my buddy's shop (where we did all the welding and where the frame currently resides).

The velocity stacks if sized and made properly can help at high throttle situations...
there is a science to them.

Dragon Performance does not presently make a box for the 650.  Note: they would need to make 2 different boxes since the spacing varies between the 79-80 and 81-82 models.

Yeah,  the stock velocity stacks for the airboxes are what I will probably use.
The Dragon boxes have velocity stacks built in, but i have never tried them so I cannot speak to the effectiveness.

Just bought a pair of Progressive shocks for the rear.
These are from a CB1100F.   I will have to check the spring rate and maybe move the mounting point on the swing arm a bit.  These are a little long for a 550

Went to pull a few parts off of the old 550 engine.  Found that the #1 rod bearing is seized, so that is what locked up the engine. 
I suppose it's rebuildable if I ever get froggy and wanna hop on that.  Probably won't, though.

Wiring tomorrow. Hope to get that all buttoned up.  Carbs will also go on tomorrow.  Still gotta build a battery box and an electronics box for under the seat.  Maybe I can get it running by next weekend... Maybe.

Got no pictures from yesterday.  Got the cam installed.  I will say that the cam install was a #$%*!  I have never had any issues with a cam install in the past, but for some reason, the chain would not seat on the crank.  After 30 minutes, my buddy comes over to help and says "let's stand the bike straight up".  Mother effer!  I have always done it on the center stand, in the past.  This time, I was on the side stand.

Got the new shocks installed.
Started to put the wiring in.  The 650 harness is sooooo much easier than the 550.  Just got to fit everything together.  Getting closer!

Getting closer....



So, I forgot to order the spark plug wires.  I don't know anyplace that sells copper core by the foot, locally. 
I think I may be hosed for the show Saturday.

Better consider using a dust mask the next time your polishing parts too. The stuff getting in your lungs is not healthy.  Stuff that goes in rarely comes out, gets imbedded in the tiny air sacks of the lungs.
