valve cover...holes...i assume this is not meant to be?
« on: January 22, 2016, 07:28:00 PM »
Can anyone confirm if this is normal? There are 2 holes in the cover that go to the area with the breather tube

In the attachment you can see the light going through it

Im worried because there is a machined hole to go to that area but the pic showing the 2 holes looked like something hit it and its jagged....ill try taking another pic...

But youre 100% sure?

100% OK. They're all like that.

Its gotta be like that to keep the splashing oil in and allow the vapor to escape...

Alright thx for confirming everyone.

Ill put it to the back of my mind. You'd think the honda engineers of the 70s would come up with a cleaner design instead of "oh crap it doesnt vent enough lets punch some holes into the cover" lol

Haha, No worries on that pal. When I opened up my first one, I almost lost it over the same thing!!! Although they are kind of jagged and don't look "quite right" , you have nothing to worry about, they're correct. Best of luck on the engine, these are great bikes. Take it easy.

The top piece changed over the years, i suspect the later ones may have let more vapor out as it was then dealt with the filter downstream.
