Yoshi Exhausts
« on: January 31, 2016, 08:10:28 AM »
Not sure if this is a minefield topic, but are Yoshi exhausts a good solid system to run on a bike like ours?

Never had that exhaust before, and the one on my new/old Nighthawk looks like it was stored under the ocean blue.  The can is fine, but the headers are barnacled.  My assumption is that it's fine once some heat get flowing - but the can is the only unknown to me.

Loud, quiet, just don't know anything about them.

Hard to find a true Yoshi, they are great pipes and most were hand bent and loud.
Developed and first used for racing and now there are many copycats....

Well I won't chuck it then.  I don't believe it's a reproduction.  Might ditch it though if it is loud.  I just don't like loud exhausts

I don't know.  I guess I don't see the point of faking something like that - certainly not for a CB700SC

As for pics, http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,154483.0.html  There's a (not very good) shot of it there.

If it really does matter, as in there is something truly rare on this bike I can certainly get better images of it.

The Yoshi on that bike is a street pipe, not a race pipe, with new wrap for the baffle it should sound great... It doesn't look in too bad a condition either, just needs some TLC.... ;)

Cool.

If I'm not mistaken this bike had a 4-2 exhaust, but if I have a perfectly serviceable 4-1 already on it - no reason to change it out.

I'm waiting for a tank, so I have plenty of time to dismount the exhaust and see what's what.

I had heard the name Yoshimura, but had no idea if they were a decent brand to go with.

I had a Yoshi can (muffler) on a stock 550F header, and it was that loud at all.

Did you have the bike running(w/ a temporary tank)yet? They have hydraulic valve lifters and really do need very good, clean oil to keep them working good.I would do multiple oil & filter changes w/ lighter oil to clean everything inside up if it was mine.I'd like to find one of those.  ;)

Hell I just now got handlebars! ;D

This bike is gonna take some TLC, and probably some tough love thrown in to boot!

I don't even think I have a CDI unit - never crossed my mind that it would be gone, but the prior owners stripped off the good stuff before selling it.

I do have the external tank ready for when the carb rebuild kits I ordered get in.  There is something about a newer bike - parts are still readily available, even from Honda.

I haven't really been working on it - it's cold, wet, and miserable here in Seattle.
