« on: January 31, 2016, 08:15:25 AM »
With spokes. Traded 200 bucks plus my leftover ironhead parts

Need bars and a pan, but runs! Happy to have her around.

No wrinkle tank. But when  I went to check engine numbers, looked to be ground off. Also noticed the tag is a replacement from the state as the orig ones were unreadable.

Any thoughts on how to proceed? In MN titling old vehicles isn't too bad, but the engine number thing might be a stopping point. Is there any other location on the motor for a number?

Does MN even want to know the engine number on bikes?  If they do, that would be uncommon.
If it works good, it looks good...

They sure do from the best of my knowledge. The form they have you fill out is called a statement of facts. It's asks for engine number for cycles.

If you had a title for it, as in a normal transaction, would MN still need the engine number to issue you a new title?...if no, then you can use that engine in any frame that has a clear title.  Although, it will always get raised eyebrows, and thus less money when it comes time to sell.

Ya. I've got one lead on a motor. If it doesn't work out its going to help others stay on the road. Lesson learned

Wow...must be strict up there. I wouldn't have a problem registering and riding it here in Texas. I'd just use the frame VIN number. I've even heard a story of a title being transferred from an owner who had passed away ten years earlier. :) Lost titles pretty easy too.

Cheers,

Do NOT mess with that replacement vin tag....................It means that in a past life, the bike was probably stolen and then recovered. The blank motor number is an indication that the cases were damaged and replaced........or the bike was crashed with damage and the entire motor was replaced.

Nothing really lost...........some work with the DMV on your part..........or convert it to a CR replica...........or offer it to an AHRMA fan for a race-bike project.
