Float bowl gasket
« on: January 31, 2016, 10:29:27 pm »
We all know how much of a pain those circular gaskets are. I saw these shaped ones on eBay and was wondering if anyone has tried them out. Do these fit well?

probably a killer deal for $11.00, but crazy. about 3 bucks each with shipping. It's a part that might cost under .10Cents each to manufacture. Being a bit more hillbillyish I get oring just slightly undersized od, add a trace of contact cement on the corners of the bowl and lay them flat on a piece of glass so I can see it,  clamped over night it'll learn a set to buy you some installation time. I think the orings are available at a bearing store in a package that cost 1.00 and some change. get the fuel resistant kind. and if you take them apart in the future, an oring might start to pop out of its recess, dry it and add some contact or neoprene glue at the corners again very lightly, and it stay's in place to assemble. contact cement is getting expensive. Neoprene glue for wetsuits is still pretty cheap.  nobody will ever know.

they work perfect. I bought 2 sets way back when. I got tired of wrestling with the basic o-ring in the float bowls.

Yep I just bought a set of those a few months back to put a spare set of carbs all back together. They worked great.

What do the "circular" gaskets look like? and why are they a pain?

Is there a reason not to just use these ones?

When you buy round gaskets...

and try to put them in a bowl that isnt round, like these PD carb bowls....

...you have to resort to glue/tape monkey business because they tend to not want to stay in the grooves, are the wrong size, can get pinched and leak, or fold inward and cause your float to hang up.
Buy gaskets that fit your bowl groove.

You posted bowl gaskets for an early CB750, the OP has 500/550 5 sided bowls.

Yeah I bet lol. I'm going to avoid any glue because it tends to leak into the carbs and clog up the jets from my experience.

Yep.  Agreed.  Incredibly worth it, to me.

Yeah - even painter's tape.  Then you have to pull 'em all over again.
