CB650 vs CB550 oil pump
« on: November 08, 2006, 03:49:46 PM »
Does anyone know what the differences are between the 650 and 550 oil pump? I noticed that in the post on Dr. Tom's hybrid AHRMA 650/550 he's running a 650 oil pump with his 550. Is the output higher? Thanks!

Not 100% sure but i think the 650 is the same and is what is available now. having said that i do have in my possesion an oil pump that has an extra oil feed sealed with a small "O" ring on the crankcase surface--unfortunately it came in a bag of bits so i have absolutely no idea what its off, it may be 650 as there was a 650 crank and 650 cylinder with pistons with it, both these are now with Ted Hayes for one of his specials! Also the rotors are identical to 500/550

Thanks! I have a working 550 pump, was just curious if the 650 had a higher output. If they did then I'd be looking for one, but since the consensus seem to be that they're the same I'll probably just leave it alone....

The 650 pump will bolt up ( have done a test fit) the cover on my 500 engine will not go on completly, you will have to make a cut out on the lower side. If you have a 550 maybe you could use a 650 cover. The 650 pump is wider in it's cross section.
