Any BMW owners w/ Krauser bags?
« on: February 02, 2016, 05:07:12 PM »
I'm looking for a key for a pr. of used bags I just got that i want to make fit my bike,it's a Sudhaus key I need w/ the number # 'S324'  Do you have an old key laying in a drawer w/ that number ? I brought the bags to a locksmith and they can't get any keys or blanks for it,unavailable..

Geez I had Krausers on my BMW R100RS mate, but I'm pretty sure I gave the new owner all the keys when I sold it. Jump on one of the BMW air head sites and pose the question there? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

IMHO the locksmith should do better than that.

Terry,
I tried posting a question like that by logging on as a guest but the website wouldn't let me and I'd really have to be a BMW owner MOA or something like that to register,a very exclusive thing..
I'll call the dealers you recommended Cal.
Prokop, these Krauser keys are unobtanium according to lots of stuff I'm reading on the web
The key I need is the one that locks the 'buckle' type lock to the bag and holds it onto the Krauser rack so it won't fly off the bike when I'm rolling, the key# is stamped into the latch mech. w/ small numbers

Oh, I believe you, but for good locksmith there is always way.

Guy at military would hard solder key and hand file the groves - he was a locksmith by profession, actually done some time too.  He just loved unlocking locks too much.  ;D

That sounds like a locksmith who knew how to improvise.

Yeah, I had them on my CBX750.  You know the keys/locks are nothing overly complicated.

Filing the tumbler profile is easy, its the milled slots (or formed) on the sides..that are a bugger to do by hand..
I agree many probably could IF they wanted to.. If you want to pay by the hour.. But who wants a 200 dollar or more key ?..i dont..

I tried RE-Psycle but they are out of Krauser keys. The 'good' is that my locksmith made me 2) keys for the bag latches(had to make a wax impression)that open and close them but still trying to find that Sudhaus key# S324,the one that locks the bags to the Krauser rack and keeps them on while driving;I've heard that many vintage BMW owners have lost saddlebags because that latch released  :o while riding and they didn't feel it.. Locksmith told me it's a weird shaped key/blank(not flat but kind of bent looking..)so I'm still searching for that before I mount them up and go traveling.

My buddy has a 1978 Beemer with a nice set of Krausers. He keeps a strap around them to hold them on in case the latch fails. He worked for Re-Psycle and said it is common practice for the folks with the Krauser bags.

yes,  :) even when I do find a key for these buckle latches to lock them to the rack I plan on putting a strap across them both or a couple bungee cords;I've cleaned out the buckle mechanisms real good & shot a bit of WD40 inside to be sure they operate well, they get dirty from the rear tire spinning and kicking up dust.
