Topic: Cb500 and cb750

Hello to all I'm new to this forum so I'll just get to it. I have been looking for an older cb. Preferably 1971 to 1975. The old Hondas have become really rare and pricy due to the demand for cafe racers. I've looked all over the net, auto locators, and I've even talked to local motorcycle dealers to see if they can find me one. So I turn to you for help and advice. Where to look or maybe someone may want to sell one of these diamonds in the rough. I must say I'm not looking for a gem I'm looking for a survivor. Something that has the potential to run for a cheap price. I would love to build an older Honda up for me and my child to cherish for many years. Any help on locating one would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ethan.

Maybe not so much rare but I can't find Any for under 1200. Most of what I have found on the internet is completely restored or already chopped up. If I could find one around 500 i would be ecstatic. Does anyone know of any websites that have motorcycles that need work for sale.

Yeah your right I'm just looking between 500 and 1000. I'm looking for something that sat outside forever or hasn't been run in years as long as it isn't locked up I'm interested. I say $500 because a friend of mine had a cb750 that was given to him. Flat tires rust everywhere and a motor that didn't run. Although it wasn't locked up. I'm looking for something I can turn into a rat bike or cafe racer not a collectible. I've always owned Honda and can't be steered away from that.

The bike in the link is perfect but I'd hate to pay 1200 for something I'm gonna remove parts from and modify. That bike is almost to nice to do that to unfortunately...

I understand what you mean a money pit could become a problem. Maybe I should look for a wrecked one. I can see where I am very unrealistic hence the fact I can't find what I want for the price I want lol. My biggest concern is chopping up something that is almost 100%. Time to quit rubbing nickles together trying to start a fire. Thanks for the help.

I got my "it was running three months ago" 550 for $700...I've put that much in again into it and still have a ways to go...have a pile of parts I've purchased but yet to install...one step at a time...but I can ride her, never mind the closed cell foam zip-tied to the stock steel seatpan, it puts a smile on my face.

I guess I got lucky but you have to really do your homework! Even with a rat bike build a sub-$1000 non-runner can be a diamond in the rough or a rat hole you'll end up throwing money down!

Hit Craigslist don't get in a hurry but be prepared to move fast, buyer beware.

Do you have any pictures of your 550. Also I'm only 23 years old and I'm a painter for the dot. I'm afraid to get burnt on my very first build.

The picture of the blue bike in my original post is what I'm hoping to accomplish it doesn't have a ton of mods. Mostly removal and cosmetics.
