Topic: Carb Bowl Drain Know How

1975 Honda CB750F SS.   Help me out here.  I thought when the bowl drain screw was loosened, it should allow fuel to drain out the bowl via. the bottom hose connection.  I'm putting a new kit in the carbs and noticed the drain screw was hollow with a couple of small openings near the head. I'm racking my brain trying to figure out how this setup works.  I don't see any porting in the bowl housing.  I filled the bowl with water and loosened the drain screw and water came out around the screw head and nothing out the bottom drain hose connection.

Drain bolts are the lowest part of the carb and dump fuel straight out the bottom of the bowl. Put a rag under each carb when you drain them to catch the drained fuel. I run my bike (with petcock turned off) until the carbs have used as much fuel as possible then drain. This is the best way to store your bike for extended periods of time.

the hoses are the overflow tubes. if the fuel level gets too high (float valves not doing their job) then the excess drains through them.
the drain screws work by simply loosening them and letting fuel flow out at the screw itself from where it goes all over the place if you don't catch it

Thanks for clarifying.  I thought by opening the drain screw fuel would drain out the overflow hoses.  That would be nice.  But I couldn't see how that could happen given the drain screw design.   My 1979 DOHC carbs do drain out the overflow hoses.
