Whoops! Jumped the gun, prices in Euro. So, back to dent removal on the tank.

I'll cross reference remaining parts, wait for delivery and go from there. Like I said, no hurry to get this done. Have to get it into the Shop first.

Sweet looking tank Steve! My, your a "high end" guy huh? I don't think I could hang with you. Would have to get a job to keep up.  ;D

I'll get pictures up in a bit. This bike is going to need very little. Fork seals, levers and a good cleaning. Tires less than two years old, carburetors rebuilt a few years back (if the gas didn't get to them) and the tank inside looks new. Good on him for draining the fuel when it sat inside.

Will need some side covers and a tank repair. Completely original bike less the sissy bar/rack. A true survivor.

Jazzed today.

Introducing Suzzie!

Let me introduce Suzzie. She was born 02/82 with the last digits on the VIN of 100398. Pretty early model I would say and delivered to Toronto, Canada. Purchased by the owner I bought it from on 01/83. Brought into VA and titled.

As soon as I walked down the driveway to help with the off load I could see she was well preserved. Yes, a couple of scrapes and bumps obviously but nothing major. The originality is what impressed me most. Paperwork shows several services through it's life.

Glamor shot.

 

Instruments are in great nick, handlebars clean. Bent levers, easily replaced. Chrome around bezels is perfect.



Headlight, chrome ring and chrome turn signal bezel is also perfect.



Paint should polish up nicely. Dent does not look as bad as the original pictures I was sent.



Inside is just perfect!





Exhaust in great shape. Nothing rusted through that I can see at this time. Surface rust on the left.



Right side a little worse. I'll clean best I can for now.



Keep in mind I have not given her a bath. Trailer to lift.







Tires were replaced two years ago and still have the markings inside the tread.



And her cute behind.



Curious what's under the seat. You can't open with the luggage rack installed. Don't know what they were thinking here but my best guess it's not the proper rack for this model. Sissy bar heads for the trash unless someone wants it for a old school build but I'll hang onto the rack. Hard to find anymore.

Well, there you are folks. To say I'm jazzed would be an understatement.

Thanks! I love the seating position on it too.

Going to make a sweet ride when finished.  ;) Arizona title and 2 years on plates today. $36.00.  ;D Insurance $65.00 a year.  ;D

Not bad for $550 huh? I think some fresh gas and a battery she will fire right up.

Yup! They made a 750 also. Talked with a guy who has one last week but he is going to run it thru Vegas auction next year. He did say it is the most uncomfortable thing he ever rode.

That 'Kat" looks like an 83' w/ the black pipes,those black pipes flow better than the earlier ones.  ;D

On the right I believe it is. Not much you can do.

Left looks pretty good but surface rust up by the head. I can get new out of the Netherlands but sourcing something nearer. I'll spring if I can locate.

Going to just repair the tank. It's like new inside. No need for tires so I saved there. Forks will need seals. Pair of side covers and levers. The list will grow I'm sure.

I've been throwing out some karma as of late. Think maybe some came back to me. Seller said he got a lot of calls. Titled and plated today in Arizona.  ;)

What Suzuki USA spec bike will you be using to cross-reference for your parts? I've been doing a little looking online but  haven't found a USA-spec Suzuki 400-450 that's an 8-valve motor yet..

As close as I can come is the 1983 GS450, US model.

I have read that the heads are different as well as carburetors. What I'm basically looking for is the small stuff, like a battery cover and strap for example. Even the side covers look the same.

Pretty much tells me to cough up the dough and order outside the US for the big stuff. Returns are a PIA to me.

Today we cleaned up the fuel tank. Compound, polish and wax.





Decided to just drain the fuel and soak the cylinders.



I did find the tool kit!



It's obvious, and I new better, the entire fuel system needs attention. Can't even get fuel to run out the petcock. Drained the right float bowl, left side nothing. Don't think the carbs have been touched, at least not in the last 10 years.

I did a little cleaning on the cases and exhaust. Much better. For now.

I would be surprised if that is not a vacuum operated petcock...
If it works good, it looks good...
