RE: Want to make $100k walk a dog.
« on: February 07, 2016, 05:54:46 AM »
I found an interesting article yesterday about a man who makes over $100k a year working part time as a dog walker. I like these types of articles as they are a nice little reminder to me of what is possible. He only works about 4 hours per day too! The idea of making $100k a year working part time for some reason seem much more appealing than making a 1 million a year working 24/7/365. It is really an interesting read

One of my X-wife's started a Dog Walk'N biz. Her Father used to be angry about it, but he got over it.
I guess she has employee's now. Everybody makes decision's, I prefer to not play with poo, but some think poo is just fine to walk around with. I think people love the dog walking folks, (?) I guess. I chose a diff wat to make 100k yr, and don't carry poo, but it hurts my head allot, & always have to study and hurt head more.

good luck.

Better hope nothing happens to that dog while he/she's in your possession or you're screwed big time.

Sorry my bad added the link.  Some pretty interesting stuff.  I like these non-traditional job type articles.  Show what one can accomplish thinking outside the box.

network engineer but I have no job for the last 3 weeks.
Used to be, get cisco ccna and 100k job, but that's a gone now.
I have cisco ccnp, & 1/2 cisco ccie. plus a bunch of Microsoft certs.
it is tough, always studying, but not so many people have cisco certs.

Have you ever thought about starting your own business doing something where your not having to study constantly to keep those certs up?

Good luck finding a job that pays decent money where you don't have to keep up certs/professional credits of some sort.
Those jobs usually do not pay well.

I think you may be right about that one.  Certs are definitely back in vouge.  They were worthless a few years ago, but are making a comeback.  After the tech market took a dip all the wannabee techs dropped out.  Now the cycle is repeating where the better paying jobs are going to cert holders.

91% of the population makes less than $100k a year.  If you want to get over that number certs, or a MD degree can definitely help.  The dog walk thing is still interesting even though it probably only works in NYC.

I think it is good for everyone to have more than one income stream.  If you are married then you are a two income streams which is much better than one.  Own a rental property an you could be at three income streams.  Have some part sales and your up to four income streams.  If your wife sells on Etsy you could be up to 5.

I don't think is wise for anyone to just have a single income stream now at days.

From what I understand with all the techs I speak to Cisco and Microsoft certs are worth the hassle to have.

It does seem that way.  Guess I need to re-up my certs.

My wife is a retired engineer and started up a dog walking biz.  Not much money but something to keep busy with really.  100K a year?  ONLY in NYC.  And that's an anomaly.

As far as what happens to the dog while in your possession - you have to have a written authority from the owner to take the dog to the vet if necessary and a waiver absolving responsibility for things out of the walker's control, like, say, a coyote attack.  Wild, roving packs of coyotes . . . .

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

If you are a licensed contractor (that is what a legit dog walker would be) you would need to be licensed and bonded and have the necessary permits to operate in your fair city. I would bet most dog walkers have none of those things.

You would be correct that most do not - a contractor's license isn't necessary since the business activity falls under a different authority/code of services, permits are required as well as an inspection of the house where the business is located to ensure that it is suitable for a home-based business. The walker is not required by local ordinance to carry insurance either, which is helpful.

But - in order to basically make sure the dog gets a pee in the middle of the day - most folks aren't going to go that route.  We, however, try to do the right thing.

cisco certs have been hot never have taken a dive. My last job was 112k. I am in DC and only have a PT security clearance, most jobs here want a secret. It is hard to get for me because I had a foreclosure bankruptcy. I been out of work 4 weeks, but haven't looked much, because my head is messed up, and my house is paid off.

Sorry about the head Jeff.  I am finding life has it's ups and downs.  Thanks for the information on the cisco certs that is really great to know.

Do you like the cisco stuff, or do you do it mainly for the money?  I never could really get into all that heavy duty networking stuff.  It just isn't as interesting as programming, but I would do it if it pays that good.

I talked to a training facility and they said a kit got a microsoft server cert and his CCNA and was able to get a job a Verizon.  Not bad for Syracuse.

Ha ha, no, I converted my pittance into USD Steve, that'd just be silly mate, imagine if our Japanese or Italian friends used that methodology! Fuel prices have taken a dive here too, not as good as you of course, but around $2.30 per US gallon? Cheers, Terry. ;D
