750 vs 550 brake levers
« on: February 10, 2016, 09:30:28 AM »

This AM I was greasing the pivot points on the front brake levers on the 750 and 550.   I put the 550 lever on the 750 and the lever was 3/4 inch closer to the grip.  I found that 550 lever on the 750 made the brake was much easier to put max pressure on.  Those of you that have modern sport bikes know that they are adjustable at the lever,  to suit different size hands.

I then swapped back and forth to see what was up.  One lever had a larger radius on the piston pushing part of the lever allowing it to be closer to the grip at braking pressure.  Much easier to apply the brakes.  The two levers seem to be Honda levers, but one with the smaller radius was not finished like the larger radius one.  I then  modified the other to be like the other larger radius.  Being just 3/4 of an inch closer makes it much easier to use the brake.  There is still plenty of space between the lever and the grip.

Too late for pics, because I was quick to modify the lever.

I suppose it is possible Honda designed that way, but I believe the levers are supposed to be the same.

Subscribed, I am going thru the exact same thing and was looking for an adjustable aftermarket lever for my 750
dual disc.

edit    550K0 and 750K5 call for the same part. Maybe aftermarket is different(?)

I can tell you a 92 VFR lever will not work.  A 92 VFR lever will work on a 89 Hawk GT.  I don't think I ever saw one for a early Honda lever.

BTW it was 73 750K and a 76 550K lever
