Black plastic pieces next to throttle levers
« on: April 13, 2016, 01:30:31 PM »
What are the small, thin plastic pieces that slide in against the carb throttle levers called?  I broke one while removing #1 carb from the mounting plate, but I don't know what it's called so I order a new one.

Thanks,
John

Not sure what you are referring to?? Always helps US if you tell us what bike and year. Have you looked it up with one of the online parts fiches like Motogrid.com?

Basically, you're probably out of luck for a new one. Most if not all carb linkage parts were never "service items" and not available separately. Check the parts fiche - CMSNL.com has them for pretty much any Honda made. If there's no number beside the part, you can't but one. Someone here probably has one to sell though... Harrisluv has a few carb parts.

BODI the mind reader  ;D  and probably correct, but it does help to have a model, size and year of a bike to make a guess or possibly smoke out a part if someone has one  ;).   Welcome to the forum JC----

Sorry about the incomplete model information.  This is for a 1971 CB500.  I'm still looking up information, but it looks like these are called dust plates according to a photo in HSM500550 manual I found on this site (item 1, fig 191, page 63)
Thanks,
john

Hi Timmaaaaay!!!,

There are no model numbers on the carburetors, just KEIHIN Japan.  I think these are the stock carbs for the 71 CB 500, but who knows what happened to the machine in the last 45 years.  The throat diameter on the engine side is 27mm and 35mm on the choke side.  These measurements were made with a cheap plastic caliper so they night be a mm off.
Thanks,
John

Thank you for checking on these.  Those are similar, but probably off a different model.  Mine have about a 45 degree curve in them and the holes a shaped differently.  I think I will try and make replacements out of gasket material the same thickness.
Thanks again,
John

Looks very similar to those on my 1975 CB550,  could not locate any replacements and second hand ones were all in poor condition. They are as you mention dust covers.  I made some up out of thin rubber sheet using a wad punch for the hole.  Nothing too fancy and not exactly the same shape, but I guessed better than leaving them out.
