I just picked up a K7 & K8 this past summer. K8 running well w/25k miles. K7 has 13k miles and has sat since 1995. I have the bike running but it only has about 65 psi compression on all four cylinders. Looking forward to finding info here.

The K7 & K8's are there own special kinda beasts...but there worth it. I bought a K8 brand new in black back in late 77. I averaged 24K a year on it, and I went all over the USA on it till it died from a broken camshaft at 113K. That's what prompted me to buy my present one.  ;)

Sorry to hijack your thread but Desert-sohc; do you know if this was caused by your cam tower bolts stripping out or just wear over time?

On teardown we found that the bearing closest to the sprocket lost oil and seized causing the cam to break. I was on the highway at 75mph when it went, metal shavings spread throughout the engine basically destroying the rest of it. It still ran on 2 cylinders when we took it apart, having other bikes, it never got fixed and was parted out.

Those little oil holes sure are a bugger! I had one snap going 55, cam tower bolt stripped. Same story, still ran on half the engine to get home, looked like it was professionally lathed when I took the valve cover off!
