Generic throttle cables
« on: February 11, 2016, 04:47:17 AM »
Have any of you experience using generic/universal cables when restoring a bike?

I am having a devil of a time finding replacement cables for my CB700SC and am on the verge of using universal fit cables - but having never used them before I wasn't sure if they really were a last option or if they work better than you'd expect.

You could always alternate a cable, it is not that hard as long as you know how to solder.

They even sell kits to build your own.

I have used the same Motion Pro push pull cables on a 86 GIXER 750, 73 CB750K and a 76 CB550K.  I even used the twist grip and the housing.  The cables also fit the stock Honda housing, too.  They work well, but the Hondas have superbike and "M" bars on them so cable routing is important.

I suppose I'll have to wing it like that then.

I have the old pull cable, rusted beyond usefulness, but I can measure it and compare it with other cables on Motion-Pro's site to find the one I need.

I seriously doubt that it's different enough from its brothers that I couldn't use their cable instead.

Personally I'd surprised that they used a push-pull on this bike - hydraulic clutch, shaft drive, and a push-poll throttle? ???

Just installed ones from VintageCB750.com on my new CB750F0. KSI made in Japan. Seem fine.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Motion Pro will make you a custom cable for a very reasonable price.
