CB750K6 Two Black Two Green Female Terminals
« on: February 12, 2016, 06:37:44 AM »
Hey there SOHC.

This is my first post too the forum though I have been reading it and searching it for answers in the last 5 months or so since I started working on my first motorcycle, a CB750K6. You have all been so incredibly helpful already and I appreciate all of the advice on here so much.

I am at the point where I have a new premade harness installed and after looking at the manual diagram, the CB750K3-K7 diagram and the updated CB750K6 diagram and searching the forum, I am at a loss.

Symptoms:
-No headlight
-No starter button power

Low Down:
I am in the headlight and the only thing I have not figured out is where my blacks and greens go. I know green is ground and my blacks have power. In all of the diagrams there are no mentions of the headlight bucket grounds (maybe I don't need them?). I have two green multi-female terminals and two black multi-female terminals and I can't find two black multi-female terminals in any of the diagrams.

Two Questions:
1. My first question is, and I suspect it matters but, does it matter which green and black wires go where?
2. Do I need to create a brown and white wire that jumps over to one of the black terminals from the brown and white terminal, if so, which black terminal do I jump to? Diagram for reference: bit.ly/1LkQahI

Thank you in advance for all of your help.

All like colors go together. Headlight housing grounds need to be plugged into any solid green multi connecter (They are the square mounting nuts with the green wires soldered onto them and hold the housing in place). Blacks should all be "key on" powered, and all solid greens connnect to ground. Start with that. And make sure the ground eyelet from the harness is grounded/bolted to the frame in the vicinity of the seat lock. I can only offer that, as I have a k5 not a k6, that has a different headlight system. check fuse for headlight too..May need a jumper you suggested, someone here will know.

Thank you DH. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

To confirm:
-Ground to frame has been in place
-Have tried various configurations of Green males to females and various combinations of black males to females without a result from the starter button or the headlight.
-Fuse box and fuses are new and I have tried back up fuses as well (it uses 5A, 7A, and 15A)

Hopefully that one person with the brown and white jumper knowledge shows up.

Thank you again for your help!

Man, that is great. Thank you. Sorry I couldn't find it with a search. I'm going to print that thing out, grab some bubbly beverages at the store after work and try some new combos this weekend. I'll be sure to update as soon as I find a solution! Thanks again!

newhampshahh,

From reading the posts on your problem, you need to take the 2 symptoms one at a time.
I'm arbitrarily naming them  1) Starter doesn't work & 2) No headlight.

For #1 - the starter RELAY gets power from the start button on the handlebar switch via an orange/yellow wire to the starter relay.  The wire coming into the Start Button is a Red/Black that comes from the starter safety module and the clutch switch.  The Feed from the clutch switch is a Black.  Very often the start button is a likely culprit when there is no starter (at least it was a problem on my K6.  :)  ).  Once you get the starter working, you might consider doing the Hondaman Start Switch Relay Mod. (I have attached a diagram I put together for my K6)

For #2 - The headlight gets power from 2 separate wires a Blue from the Headlight switch for the HIGH Beam and a White for the LOW Beam.  the third wire on the Headlight socket is a Green that is a Ground.  Again, the Headlight switch is also a known problem and you need to make sure it's not the cause of your problem.  There is also a Hondaman Headlight Relay Mod, which is shown in the diagram I attached.  But again, you need to verify a good working switch before doing the mod.

I hope this helps a little bit at least.  If you hav any questions, feel free.  Will subscribe to this thread in case you need more help.

Thank you for the reply and the diagram Charlie. I'm thinking all the wiring in the headlight is solid now (all black wires and green wires hooked up properly. I took copious notes from the suggested Hondaman thread and I haven't made any progress. I'm going to test the solenoid this afternoon and see if I get a click. If I get a click and still nothing, I'm going to reference the diagram you so graciously provided. I certainly appreciate that and all of the advice! I'll be sure to report back as soon as I make a more progress.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to check back in and report on the headlight issue.

For anyone who has installed a new wiring harness on a CB750K6 and cannot figure out why the lights aren't working (or the tail running light). You need to make sure there is a wire that bridges (one of) your black females with the brown and white females. This bridge wire obviously did not come with my harness but it is indeed in the CB750K6 diagram. Once I bridged the power (black) to the brown and white.... wha-Boom! My brown and white was already using all of the female inputs, so I soldered it to the middle space and everything worked fine.

I hope someone finds this and it helps!

Also, the starter button is still a no-go. Since I just replaced the solenoid, I am down to thinking it is one of three things, though I could and probably am wrong.

1. Neutral safety switch is stuck. When I turn the bike on I get my neutral light no matter what gear it is in. The light is brightest in Neutral but still present when I am outaide of neutral just a little dimmer. I haven't located the switch yet in order to test it.

2. The Neutral diode is garbage? This is the only piece of electrical I haven't replaced in the side panel. lol

3. My clutch needs to be gone over. Okay, I really don't know why I said this but there it is. I'm grasping at straws at this point.

The neutral switch is located on the bottom of the motor, you will find a single cloth covered wire leading to it. You can unlock that from the switch by unscrewing the singles group, and then grounding the wire simulates the switch being closed i.e in neutral.  When the wire is not grounded, your neutral light should be off. If this is not the case, then there may be a problem with your diode , or starter Safety Unit if your bike has one of those.

If the wiring on your bike is the same as a K7, your starter and your headlight run off the same circuit. If it is properly wired, then the headlight should come on when you turn on the key, but then go out when you press the starter button, then come back on when you release the starter button. Does t do this? Then it may be wired right.

The K7 has a safety feature. It will not allow the starter to turn unless the the starter circuit finds a ground either through the neutral lght or the clutch switch. It is controlled by the diode, which allows the ground to be shared. It does not allow the two switched to use each other as a ground. You can check to see if it is the diode by bypassing the safety system. Just run a ground, any ground, to the ground wire on the solenoid. Does the starter now turn? Your diode is bad.

Try these, then tell me what you know.
