Who can identify this part?
« on: February 14, 2016, 01:05:18 PM »
Can anyone tell me what #18 is on the rear caliper? I saved all of my parts from my caliper,  but I do not remember seeing any of those. Is that just the back plate that the brake pad is mounted to?

That's the spring clip that holds the rubber covers on.

If you buy the complete rear caliper rebuild kit from SCI (siriusconinc.com) it comes with those and the rubber covers plus new pistons. Only kit I have found.

Got me on that. Let me get my parts book out. Back in 5. Not in my Honda parts book. Going to CMSNL to get a better look and part number on their site.

OK, not to worry. Not on our US bikes. Shim.

They were not used on US models.

"from serial number: 1020062".

Their only known purpose is to dampen vibrations that cause shrieking and squeaking, and apparently, they work, as I omitted the equivalent parts from my F3, and guess what...

I think Jerry meant they started using them from 1020062, 20k units after yours. Did the US models have issues with brake squeal? Maybe the ones that didn't come with them would benefit from having them.

Not lately. When I did it was my brother on his CB and me on my Sportster, he was always behind me so I never heard his over my straight pipes.
