CB550K OEM Plenum drain hose. Got foam?
« on: May 06, 2019, 04:04:12 AM »
The original plenum drain hose was still attached to the bike when I bought it, but there's serious rot throughout. I can get an OEM replacement but I can't tell if the foam filter that goes inside is included. If not, I can just use some leftover breather tube hose with some filter materiel stuffed inside it. If anyone's ever bought one new, let me know. Part # is 17335-323-000. Thanks!

For the filter just get a 3M scuff pad and cut to size. Works good as breather filter.

He's talking about the plenum drain tube.

Just about anything will work. It's mostly to keep bugs from crawling up the hose anyway. And to separate the oil/fumes a little, I guess.
I used a sliver of UNI foam cut from some scraps I had laying around. Rolled it between my fingers, stuffed it in the end of the tube and let it expand.

The plenum drain is their in case the carbs overflow and fill it with raw gas.  For proper function it needs to allow liquids to pass, but not let significant air bypass the filter system.  Just about any air filter foam, as used in lawn equipment, cut to size and stuffed in the end will do the job nicely.   Note, the original aose was molded and reduced in diameter at the exit, to limit air volume at inlet.  "Stacking or nesting hose sections at the end will do the same, and allow a means to keep from sucking the foam into the engine.

Same deal as above...I cut some 3M scuff pad to size and pushed it in there. Drained fine.
