Bimota HB1 Clone build

Someone started a thread about my Bimota HB1 build and member 754 suggested  I post the project here.

I'm building a 74-75 Bimota HB1 clone with full custom frame. I have been slowly working on it since last March 2015.
The frame build will start in next few weeks by my buddy Karsten at Frame Crafters in Illinois, USA,
 
There have been some CB550 make overs kits, using a tank and seat like the HB1, so it looks like a HB1, but is not very true.

This will be as close to original as I can get with a few items making it my one. The fact that this was originally a kit,(Bimota first bike) there are some parts that were up to the builder. The kit was frame, swing arm, fiberglass tank and seat. Kit was built for CB750 engine.

Builders typically used Ceriani triple tree and forks with Fontana calipers. I had to forego the Fontana's and went with Brembo due to cost.

Here is a photo of one the originals HB1

By the way. Only 10 were ever built.

I am not an expert on HB1, so anyone with experience with this bike, please feel free to precipitate.

Here is the tank and front fender. Seat is also carbon fiber. I stepped it up and went carbon over fiberglass.

How did you manage to get the correct measurements for the frame..?  You may want to send a message to Ted, Ricky_ Racer on the forum, he knows a bit about these bikes if my memory serves me well....  I did say if... ;D :o

This is my second version of the dash. The idea is to keep a racer look, with emphasis on the tach, but then supply what is needed as a street bike,  in a subtle way.

I understand what reverse engineering is but, to do that effectively you'd need a complete frame... Do you have access to a frame..?

I beg to differ. You can be effective either way. Having a frame to copy is certainly easy way, but engineering and experience is still another way.

Believe me, we will get it right.

The plan is to build and sell the bike. People are waiting already.

Selling as a kit? Maybe, but not right now.

I'll offer the bike with tank, seat and fender as carbon fiber or original paint scheme.

I hope to also do a full fairing as a option. The front fairing mount is already in the plan.

Don't ask for price because I have not crunched the numbers. The bad new is it will be very expensive.
The good news is an original sold last year for $85,000. This will be far from it.

Since this bike is being made for the street. You need mirrors and turn signals.
The controls are New original CB750, with Tomaselli clip-ons

I could have made a set myself, but out of respect, I thought a nice set of Italian Tarozzi rear set would be appropriate.

Head light is original CB750 housing with tri bar lamp, with Ceriani style mounts.
 
The forks are New  fully tuneable replica 35mm Ceriani.

Mike, You hit on the one thing that I can not do at this time. It would be pretty costly , but it's on the drawing table.
I would prefer to build the bike first to engineer it.

Here we have the Dual Brembo F08 installed to CB750 front hub. Does require wider triple tree.
