Kick stand dragging in corners...
« on: February 23, 2016, 07:27:31 AM »
As you can see in the below picture, the kickstand is rather low. It scrapes on every left turn.

Would it be adviseable to simply cut off that "point" level with the ground?

I can't imagine it hurting anything to do.so but thought Id get some outside thoughts on it.

I had to grind my frame a bit to get the kick stand tuck closer, but you don't seem to have space for that.

Its the exhaust that stops it from going up far enough.

Agreed Ravie. Not sure what the exhaust is but try to give that some better elevation.  ;)

every left turn?  doesn't look like it's that low at all to scrape every turn.  I don't see where on the kickstand it's grinding either.  You sure it's not something else?

I chased an odd sound for a while and it was the chain grinding the center stand.

Check the main stand area too as it might be the culprit. Your chain if it isn't adjusted correctly may be hitting the main stand foot pad on that side. The stock exhaust also holds the main stand in a specific position usually via a rubber bumper, once aftermarket exhaust systems are used the main stand foot can rise up closer to the chain on the left side.

There are also little balls on the footpegs that are there to tell you when you're getting close. Check those.

Awaggghhhh that is why I love you guys.

It is the center stand, but in opposite. It is mere inches from the ground when the bike is only on the kickstand. Sure as poop I can see where it is scraping at. I will heat and rebend the foot hold on it. Or try anyway.

I always remove the center stand on these bikes, they scrape far to easily. Keep it aside so it can be used if necessary... ;)

I like it for when I'm parking for extended periods...Keeps my floats from spewing over...  Might have to, though.

Whelp, after I get it tuned this weekend and riding I'll pull it off. I am going to need a way to get it "up" when I replace the fork tubes at some point though.

How much do you weigh, and what is the condition of your shocks? My Tuna Butt will scrape every now and then in a bump in the corner on the center stand. Has more to do with pizzas and beer then cornering clearance for me.  ;D

If you look at my above pic...you can see that the center stand is REALLY low. I didn't notice before because I had the bike parked on the center stand...but I tok it off the stand tonight and immediately saw how low it was and I looked under it's lowest edge and sure as poop that's where it has been dragging.

I only use the center stand for maintenance. I made a longer pivot pin for my 750 with a 4-1 exhaust that I can slide in from the left side; it literally takes seconds to install. On my FT500, there was no clearance for a longer pin, so I made a two-piece pin. One half is inserted into the stand, and the second piece pushes the first through the frame mount once lined up.

Now that's thinking! I'm still not sure if the centerstand will clear the MotoGP Werks exhaust without removing the tailpipe but if it does left side pin install is the way to go!

Bend a wrench and and install it on the exhaust mount to catch the main st and because it will hit the chain
