What are the odds
« on: February 09, 2016, 10:50:25 am »
Ended up adjusting my points on the side of the road yesterday...

TWICE

In a fifty mile stretch.

2/3 slipped out of adjustment and stayed closed.  What is the meaning of this nonsense?

might be as simple as new split/lock washers under the adjustment screws that hold the point in place.
the old ones can be pretty flat.

if it slips far enough on the plate, the cam on the advancer unit will not even touch the foot of the point to open it, so yeah, itll stay closed.
replace those old split washers

be sure the plate is actually moving...because re-doing your gap and timing will sometimes buy you some time when the condensors are going bad, but not much time!

I'm seriously considering a pamco electronic.

But new points and some other spring cleaning should suffice for now.
